Rated4out of5byfromLight, warm, but not warm enoughThis winter convinced me to replace the 1980's era ski jacket that I find myself needing about 1 time per year, on the very coldest days. I was looking for a 600+ fill down jacket as a replacement. I thought I had found the perfect jacket in the MH Nitrous. And I came very close to finding perfection. Just not for my intended uses. This jacket is advertised as 800 fill. But, the fill is very thin. The jacket is not much thicker than the old flannel lined windbreakers we wore in my childhood. That's great for aesthetics, but not great for what I need. I needed a jacket that would get me through the days where the temps were below zero, and the wind chills even lower. I need it for everyday commuting. Walking half a mile to the bus stop, waiting for transit, running errands, etc. I thought today would be a good test for this jacket. Temps at 8 a.m. were just about 0. Winds were calm. The sun was out. I wore the jacket over a T shirt and a cotton cardigan. I was just mildly uncomfortable. I got more comfortable as I walked, and moved around more. But it was chilly when I stood in one place. The adjustable waist cinches helped keep out the old, and the neck height was perfect for me. It was just a tad underperforming at 0 degrees. It would have been insufficient for temps a few degrees colder (which I might be able to address with a warmer (wool) underlayer), but I also felt the wind more than I liked. A gusty cold day would have been a problem in this jacket. I really like this jacket, but I need something that will handle temps 10 degrees lower than is comfortable in the MH Nitrous. I have other jackets that will do what this jacket will do. This one will have to go back. The feather weight of this jacket and the compressibility will make that hard to do. But, with the REI Outlet's new 30 day return policy, I don't have enough time (or hopefully deep cold weather) to try this jacket long enough to somehow make it essential to my wardrobe. It will be (reluctantly) going back.

Rated5out of5byfromfantastic jacket. This is the perfect down jacket, in my opinion. It is not super puffy/too thick to wear comfortably, yet is very warm (800 fill power). I love this jacket so much I bought one for my husband and my dad (in the men's line). I am 5'9" and 135 pounds, and the medium actually has long enough sleeves for my arms without a huge baggy jacket body. Fitted body, hits me perfectly at the hips. Great with jeans running around town, perfect for hikes, perfect under my ski shell for skiing. Zipper is easy to slide with one hand, jacket packs very small/light. Light grey goes with EVERYTHING. It's my favorite jacket.

Rated4out of5byfromWarm and Lightweight!Took it backpacking. Great fit, light weight, cute, nice long-ish length. I really love this jacket and am excited I bought it. There are only a few cons: #1 the feathers have already started leaking on the first few days of wearing. #2 the neck opening is large and doesn't have a draw string, so it can get a bit drafty.

Rated5out of5byfromFantastic jacket!I have been wanting a jacket like this for a while until I saw this on sale here! I bought the jacket in Medium 'slate'. I'm 5'6 145lb and it fits spot on. It even seems to have more shape to it than say the Patagonia one I've tried on several times. I just wore it this weekend on a hiking/camping trip. It held up awesomely again 25mph gust on a mountain but was light enough the next morning when all was calm and it was much warmer. A fantastic overall jacket. I will wear it to work often too considering I am often outside before the sunrises. Great investment.

Rated4out of5byfromCute jacket, baggy shouldersI was looking for a down jacket for winter, and pounced on this when I found it on sale online. The color (wink blue) is gorgeous and the jacket is incredibly warm and light. It packs down to the size of a burrito, which is incredibly handy. Not very breathable, but that wasn't high on my list of requirements. I ordered a medium and it fit great except for the shoulders. It's like someone took a medium size jacket but attached large sleeves to it. Between the weirdly roomy shoulders and the logo on the front (which was more annoying in person than I thought it would be), I decided to return it. A little sad to see it go though. Would have been a great little winter coat.
