    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromNice to have for a back-up I brought this on my last backpacking trip. It was nice to know I had it. I found out I prefer to have filtered water on me already than to drink out of the straw while getting to my destination. I have a water pump also, so I'll probably go back and forth using each!

by fromThe perfect outdoor straw Haven't had to use the LifeStraw yet (which I think is a good thing). However it is very light and easy to stash in a pack for a day trip in case of an emergency.

by fromfirst trip: ok--2nd trip poor I used it X1 in the fall. OK for price, in-the-moment convenience, weight and effort. Then this a.m. I could aspirate only with great difficulty, water from a clear running creek. Inverting the straw helped some, but that goes against the design. Maybe I got a lemon--most other people seem to like it.

by fromGood to have in a pinch I really liked having the Life Straw as security to be able to filter water if I ran out on the trail. Unfortunately, I wish it were longer so you don't have to actually lay down by a lake or river to get a drink. I kept thinking a bear would walk right up to me and I wouldn't even know it cause my face was stuck in the creek :) Also, you need to blow into it first so that the water is not so hard to suck up.

by fromPerfect name for a perfect product I never hike without my Lifestraw. This thing is amazing. You can get clean water from nearly any source. I have found that it is easier to collect a cup of water and drink through the Lifestraw from the cup (than to bend over a water source and suck from there). You can simply generate more suction from a more upright position. Always be sure to blow the water back out- it will keep your Lifestraw going longer. This little guy really cuts down on the amount of water that you have to carry.

by fromHelpful in emergency This is a great, lightweight, highly packable tool. It's a bit slow to drink from and isn't the best option to try to get cooking water from, but overall, it does what it's intended to and I suppose I'm being overly demanding.

by fromGreat backup or drink-as-you go filter I carry this on the outside of my pack and take a few sips of water whenever I come a across a stream or spring, saving the water in the hydration pack. Unfortunately you have to suck very hard through it and you only get a small sip of water every time. The first few "sucks" will yield only air, after which you finally start getting some water. Overall this makes for a very compact, lightweight backup filter that you can take everywhere, especially on trips to destinations with questionable water quality (India, Mexico come to mind).
