Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the cost These traction devices are the next best thing to full crampons. I have worn them on very long climbs on Colorado 14ers in snowy, icy and rocky conditions. They have just enough bite that you can walk easily on solid ice. They also are small enough that walking on rock/dirt isn't a problem. The are of course not for any technical work, but for trail hiking, they are wonderful. Like any traction device, they don't help that much in true powder snow. They also tend to ball up if the snow/ice is slushy or muddy. A quick smack with your pole fixes that though. These are well worth the cost. There's simply no comparison between them and the cheaper models that just have a coiled spring, etc. These are a great middle ground between those cheap models and real crampons.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great purchase I LOVE this product. I purchased them after doing a 14ner in CO and watching the guy in front of me sail down the snowy icy trail in his spikes as I slipped and slid along. My first use was on Mt. Sterling in the Smoky Mountains and they did great. We started out in snow and ice and as we descended it became slushy wet leaves for 6 miles and they performed perfectly. I was worried that they would be uncomfortable or feel weird when on rock or hard surfaces but did not feel them at all through my Asolo boots...may have been a different story with a softer boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I run and hike a lot of local trails that tend to get packed down and/or extremely icy due to lots of use, and some are quite steep. I'd tried other cheaper traction devices and they worked okay MOST of the time, but were never 100% trustworthy. Meaning, they'd slip on occasion or even fall off on steeper terrain. I've had none of those problems with my Kahtoonas. They grip even the hardest, steepest ice every time, and you don't even notice you're wearing them while running. Snug fit, very minimal extra weight, and the confidence to run and hike on ice and hard-packed snow as if it were the middle of summer. One of the best investments I've ever made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic running traction I bought a pair of these four years ago for winter running and adventure racing. Four years and about 450 miles of running later, the chains finally wore off (the spikes didn't). I'm ordering new ones immediately. These are the perfect tool for running in icy or partially icy conditions. They are easy to put on (ca. 15 sec) or take off (ca. 3 sec) -- if you want to take them off for non-slippery pavement. But they are actually so stable that I did about nine miles of a fifteen-mile run on clear pavement in them once, and all was well: no weird gait, no blisters, nothing. Since then, I've simply kept them on for the entire run. I just take them off before I walk in the house and on my hardwood floor. :) It is true, as some of the reviews say, that the spikes wear out a bit. But, if anything, they grip too hard at first, which takes a bit getting used to while running. This morning, on my last run using the four-year-old spikes, with a couple of chains already broken in the back, I had ZERO problem running up and down completely icy trails. I wear these over bulky GoreTex trail running shoes (a couple of different brands and styles) and have worn them occasionally over boots while walking the dog, and they always fit wonderfully, despite my wide shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Energy saver- great product Used in both steep off trail ice/snow conditions and on flat trail trecking. Saved so much energy with no foot sliding on each step. Covered 23 miles off trail in 3 days, wore them the hole time, did not create foot soreness anywhere. Worked great in steep conditions and surprisigly was not uncomfortable on the flat ground. Very durable, I managed to slide my foot across a log getting the rubber caught on a limb. The rubber stretched almost 12" but did not break, pleasantly surprised. The other products available would not have worked for the deeper snow conditions I was in. They are universal so you don't have to worry about left or right foot. I am going to buy another pair as a back up in case they stop making them. Sizing may be an issue, I am a 9.5 which was right in the middle of the medium, which worked great, they were quiet and fit my boot great. not sure how the bottom end of the size will sound or fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer Traction Not even debatable, this is hands down the best traction device for snow/ice on the market. Great for fall, winter and spring hiking. Also works on gravel, mud, rocks. Extremely durable. Forget about all the other copycats and get the original from Kahtoola.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Design; Spikes Need To Be Harder I take my dog hiking on various trails and old logging roads every day here in Vermont. I bought these MICROspikes in January of 2013 and used them through March and then started again this December. In the beginning they worked perfectly, especially on ice, but now the tips have worn off so much that they are ineffective in providing the traction I need on icy patches. I'm surprised that they wore down so quickly. I believe most of the problem is that I need to walk on an icy dirt road that is covered with sharp gravel in order to get to the hiking trails. I have two suggestions, 1) offer an "upgrade" to much harder (but not brittle) steel spikes and 2) sell just the replacement spikes so that I don't have to buy the entire rubber and connection parts. If you need someone to "Field Test" the harder spikes, let me know. I'd be happy to do this and report back on their durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great traction This is my second pair, first lasted 3 winters, then part of the strap broke. Logged many miles on these, then they broke after wearing out.
