Marmot Chelsea Coat - Women'sis rated5.0out of5by1.
Rated5out of5byfromGreat coatAfter many Chicago winters, this year I decided to treat myself to a high-end down jacket. My requirements: 1. Smooth outer shell (I don't like the quilted "sleeping bag" look) 2. Knee length or longer 3. Waterproof 4. Down-filled 5. Hood 6. If there was fur on the hood, it needed to be detachable so I could remove it. After much research (probably too much!) I narrowed it down to several brands: The North Face (TNF), Patagonia, Marmot and Canada Goose. I chose this Marmot because the down fill was of higher quality than TNF (650 vs. only 550 for TNF), and it was cheaper than similar versions from Patagonia and Canada Goose (I don't spend a whole lot of time outside in the winter, so I couldn't justify spending $600 or more on a CG jacket). When the coat arrived, I was surprised at how small the package was. My husband has a large, puffy Marmot winter coat and I was expecting something similar. However, I found this jacket to be warm enough for the harsh Chicago winters. I wore it while shoveling snow yesterday in 15 degree weather and was fine. I could've stayed out longer, but my hands and feet were frozen. The outside of the jacket was wet due to the continuous snowfall, but I stayed warm and dry. I like the elastic cuffs at the wrists, which keep out snow and cold. The fleece-lined pockets are a nice touch, too. I had a little trouble zipping up the 2-way zipper, at first. I learned not to push the 2 zipper-bottoms (bases?) on the right side to tightly together when inserting the other (left) side of the zipper. Stack the zipper bottoms loosely on top of one another and insert the other side and it works like a charm.
