The North Face single-wall Phoenix 3 tent is a light, freestanding backpacking abode with room for 3 people and luxurious amounts of headspace.

DryWall™ proprietary single-skin fabric has high breathability, high tensile strength, and a Durable Water Repellent finish
DryWall is inherently fire resistant which eliminates the need to add fire retardant to its polyurethane coating; this saves weight and increases breathability and strength

Comments about The North Face Phoenix 3 Tent - 2012 Closeout:

I bought this as part of a mountain survival kit to be carried in a single-engine aircraft. I required a kit 20lbs or less and I wanted some kind of shelter that offered wind and water protection. It had to be light and capable of sheltering four people.

This tent is under 5 lbs packed - one of the lightest floored tents I could find in this size. This can shelter four in a pinch, although it is more comfy for three. The single hull (no fly) keeps weight down and pitching simple while still being appropriate for three seasons and the fourth season in an emergency.

The only drawback, if that's even the right word, is that the doors are half mesh with no closeable flap. I'd have preferred sealable doors that can just be zipped shut regardless of whether the vestibules (one over each door) are staked out or not - that would conserve heat better. In this design you have to stake out the vestibules to provide your 'seal' - so the vestibules are required for full wind protection and that means more volume to warm and more loss of heat. Not a huge complaint especially if you use this is as it is designed - as a 3-season tent.

Overall it is a good size for the weight and pitching was fast without a fly to mess with.
