Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot, Great Price I have only hiked in trail running shoes and just made due. For a once in a lifetime backpacking trip to Alaska I knew I needed to update my foot gear. After reading a bit I knew that a light weight, mid-rise boot would suit my needs. We were keeping our packs just below 25 lbs so I thought a heavy hiker boot would be over kill and kill my budget. I also needed my custom orthotics to fit and handle well. These boots accomadate my customs perfectly. Another important feature for me was being waterproof. I went into REI and tried on a few boots knowing I wanted to not mess with ordering any and maybe returning them. This boot felt really comfortable in the store and was at my price point. I walked in them for a couple of weeks on afternoon walks to break them in and get used to having something over my ankles (I was not used to that) but it was not necessary at all. They felt great out on the box on my neighborhood street. On the trail they handled very well. I was impressed with how much grip they had compared to hiking in trail runners (Brooks Cascadia) like I had on previous hiking adventures. I also felt like I could go down steeper slopes with a more secure grip on the land even when it was a little wet and carrying my 25 lb. pack. They were extremely comfortable. I never had an issue with rubbing and my feet felt very good after hiking. We averaged about 7 to 8 miles a day so it was not super long hikes (had to take lots of pics!) but we hiked day after day and even then my feet did very well. I tested out the waterproof feature on a hike out of Ptamigan Lake. It was raining and the brush was thick. My feet were not wet at all. Granted I was not crossing any streams on this hike but in a steady light rain with wet brush around they performed perfectly. All in all these boots fit my needs. I am not familar with heavy boots and noticed some reviewers mentioned the soles not being thick. For me, coming out of trail runners, carrying a light pack and hiking lower miles they felt very thick and comfortable. Our hikes were over different types of terrain. Rocks, crushed slate going up to Harding Icefield (day hike with camalback only), grassy tundra and these boots felt great over all of them. Last thing I would add is that I have not hiked in these when it was hot. I am hoping when I do that the waterproof features do not make them too hot, but on my walks in my neighborhood, pretty hot already where I live, they did well but that is not on an actual hike. I am very happy with my purchase, they met my needs on this trip and I am looking forward to wearing them for other hiking adventures both over nights and day hikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit, light. Great fit & instant comfort, first wear. Hiked a few miles, great boot. Ultra light, did well on wet, muddy slopes, cleaned up nicely. Stayed dry. Super satisfied with purchase. Wore these in temps around 50-80, not sure how warm they will be in colder weather. Bought for day-walking, distance hiking. I wear shoe size 8 or 8 1/2 & found size 9 to be the right fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keen Hiking Boots I recently bought these and I love them. The sole is very comfortable and it has good arch and ankle support. I have only done day hikes in these, if I did a longer hike I am afraid the bottom of my feet might get sore because the sole is not as thick as other boots. I like this though because I can feel the ground better. These boots look much better in person then in the pictures displayed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maybe too light? At last count this boot is my 15th pair of Keens. I buy them because they fit, protect my toes from my Great Dane, have a decently high instep, arch in the right place for my feet, price point OK if I watch for sales, and I can get many many miles out of a pair. Thus a 5 star for Keen products as a whole I bought the Verdi II mids to try a lighter weight boot than my beloved Targhee II mids (with Dr. Scholl's® Massaging Gel? Insoles). The differene in weight is very nice. So far I've hiked/walked about 100K in the Verdi's (with Smartfeet Green D0 in the past couple of weeks, mostly on pavement and dusty desert trails - some with pea gravel. I am thinking though that the sole is thinner (part of the light weight feature of the boot) and if I hike on mountain trails with larger/sharper stones my feet will get pretty beat up. I still need to test this and with the Dr Sholl's vs the Smartfeet inserts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hiking boots! I was instantly in love with these boots when I tried them on. In running shoes I usually go a half size up, and with these boots I went one full size up, to allow for me to wear thicker wool socks. They fit perfectly and had no break-in time. This was important to me, especially since over the ankle shoes are new to me. The traction was great and kept my feet dry when going through water. I'm glad I found these!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performed As Promised I purchased these boots because I took a trip to rural Mexico, where the climate primarily that of a rainy jungle, lots of mud, lots of water. I'm happy to report that, while the boots and my wool socks were not quite enough to combat the chill, it wasn't until my feet were fully submerged in wet mud past the ankle that I started to feel my feet getting wet, which is saying a lot because up until that point, these boots kept my feet dry through everything short of being completely submerged in soaking wet mud. Another plus is that there is ample toe space so that even though I did not find a wide size like I usually wear, these fit very well. Unfortunately, I ended up with bedbugs and couldn't isolate the boots or treat them because of where I was at the time, and had to ditch the boots. I can say with confidence, though, that I am definitely tempted to buy the same pair again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really surprised! I have wide feet and have been wearing Keens for well over ten years now. I have always consistently been a size 8.5 in Keens. So recently, I needed a comfortable pair of winter shoes for various activities. At first I tried the Targhees, but for some reason I have never found those to be comfortable for my feet. The sales person suggested I try the Verdi II Mid WP. I wasn't really looking for a "boot", I really just wanted a shoe. But I tried on the Verdi and was surprised by how comfortable and light it was. Even though it was a mid boot, it really didn't feel like it. The only problem was that it felt a little tight like it wasn't as wide as my other Keens. I decided to try the 9 and it was perfect! These are a comfortable as it gets, I just had to size up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight Hikers with Good Grip I have been hiking in the Keen Alamosa for years and was looking for a replacement with better ankle support and stickier traction. The Verdi II is a decent boot: it's lightweight, grippy, and very comfortable. However, the insole is not quite as supportive as the Alamosa, and although it has Keen Dry it is not fully waterproof. I found that out the hard way after a late spring hike turned snowy. Also, be aware that this boot has an even wider toe box than most Keens. I happen to love that feature, but it might not be for everyone. I think that this boot will be fine for the next two seasons, but I'd really like to see Keen make a mid-hiker version of the Alamosa with better traction.
