Platypus took the already fast and easy-to-use GravityWorks™ filter system and came up with this smaller and lighter 2-liter version to fill your water bottles on backcountry adventures.

    • System includes a 2-liter dirty collection reservoir, GravityWorks filter cartridge, universal bottle adapter and hoses
    • Fill the dirty collection reservoir, hang it above your water bottle and let gravity carry the water through the filter and hoses—filtering water has never been so easy!
    • Bottle adapter fits Platypus and most Nalgene, MSR, Sigg and Klean Kanteen bottles (sold separately); also attaches to most hydration reservoir shutoff valves and tubes
    • Hollow fiber filter technology offers a high flow rate of 1.5 liters per min.
    • Filter physically removes particles, protozoa, and bacteria down to 0.2 microns in size, including giardia, salmonella, cryptosporidia and others
    • Unfiltered reservoir features a quick-disconnect valve that automatically shuts off the flow of water when hose is disconnected
    • Shutoff hose clamp on the clean water hose allows on-demand water control for filling bottles; clamp also shuts off the system when not in use
    • Clean the system by simply holding the filtered-water container above the unfiltered-water reservoir to backflush the filter
    • Taste-free reservoir and silicone hoses ensure great-tasting water
    • Platypus GravityWorks Filter System Bottle kit weighs only 9.5 oz.

Please note: Platypus products can only be shipped to U.S. addresses.

Comments about Platypus GravityWorks Filter System Bottle Kit - 2 Liter:

This is just a preliminary review as winter won't go away and I haven't been able to use it in the back-country yet.

But this is a great product. The filter is exactly the same as in the larger 4L version, so I won't focus on that.

The clean reservoir is nicely designed. The handle has a clip that allows you to easily attach it around branches, etc. which is a nice touch. Also, you can arrange the handle so you are holding the strap twice, which shortens the handle when you're just carrying it, or you can hold it so the strap is longer when you're working on filling the reservoir.

The adapter works surprisingly well. I mainly use platybottles as well as a water bladder, and the adapter works great for both. This also means I can leave the larger portion of the adapter at home, which is a nice bonus as less weight is always better.

For the bladder, you simply have to take off the bitevalve, and you can filter directly into the bladder. A standard nalgene also works fine and when I tried with my smaller 16oz nalgene, that worked great as well. For all of those bottles, it fits tightly and snugly so you didn't have to hold the hose.

The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is I haven't been able to try it with dirty water.

Quick note: the bottle adapter does have 'air relief' holes so you can use it with solid bottles. This does mean that it leaks ever so slightly when you backflush the filter. It's very easy to avoid. Nothing's wrong, it's simply a feature they had to include so solid bottles could be used with the filter.

For a bit more info on the adapter, you can click on the video. Sorry it's so quiet - it's my first video and I didn't quite know how to fix that.

Comments about Platypus GravityWorks Filter System Bottle Kit - 2 Liter:

I truly believe that out of all the gravity filter options Platypus offers, this is likely the best value of all three.
It's the same filter cartridge and same flow rate, but with a smaller "dirty" reservoir and a standard MSR/Nalgene style thread-on bottle mouth at the end. With a few quick mods, it's really convenient.
      This is what I've done:
      1. I've removed those foam ends on the filter. I fail to see what good they are, but they're not heavy, just extra bulk.
      2. I've cut the 'clean' line and spliced in a Camelbak style quick-connector to make it plug into my hydration system without having to remove it from my pack
      3. I've replaced the 'dirty' bag with a discarded Camelbak reservoir. It still quick-connects on, but offers a filling capacity of 2.5 liters instead of 1.5, making it just a little more useful.
      4. I swapped out that stuff sack for a different, less complex one.

It's a great system, and the best of the three Platypus filters in terms of overall value. With a little tinkering, it's actually a truly useful system.
