The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.
Rated1out of5byTonyKfromDoesn't perfom as advertisedOh, where to start. My wife and I used this on a 22 day trip on the PCT, filtering about 10 liters/day. We were looking for something lighter than the pumps, which this is, but it doesn't work as advertised and it's not very convenient to fill. I HIGHLY recommend pre-filtering before you put water in the "dirty" bag. We pre-filtered with a bandana. Without prefiltering, it probably would have been useless! ...and most water sources were very clean. This is advertised as filering 1.5 liters per minute. Maybe it was that good the first day, but here is what I was able to get out of it. Day 6 - 2 min/liter; Day 9 - 2min, 20sec /liter; Day 12 - 3 min/liter; Day 17 - 2 min40sec/liter; Day 20 - 3 min/liter. We backflushed about every 4 liters (recommended every 2-4 liters. After we got home, I backflushed about a liter through it and was able to filter a liter in 2 minutes. A far cry from the advertised rate after ~200 of the 1500 liter advertised life of the filter.

Rated5out of5byElder BrotherfromExcellent water filter systemI decided to give this system a try after reading about the many failures the pump systems have. I like the simplicity of it, no mechanical moving parts. One thing I didn't like was the bite adapter, it does work but not very well, it leaks air if not set up right. Not to mention the flow rate isn't accurate, it took better than a minute to filter 1.5 liters, and that was clean water. Other than those two things this is well worth the money. I also liked not having to remove the bladder every time to fill it up, makes this a great product.

Rated5out of5byrumplestinfromGood Easy to use.Used this product for the first time on a short canoe trip. It worked well and filtering 2L of water was very fast. We liked being able to attach it directly into our platypus water reservoirs and Nalgene bottles. No complaints though can't speak on durability because we have only used it once.

Rated5out of5byBryan SfromExcellent ProductI was shopping for a replacement pump / filter and the sales person recommended this as a better alternative. It certainly is. I've always hated standing over a water source juggling bottles and pumping my arms off. This system eliminates all of that. Fill the bag, walk to the empty bottles, open the valve, fill the bottle and repeat until all bottles are full.
The 2 liter dirty bag filtered directly into bottles is perfect for two. If I was going out with a group or setting up a base camp I'd take the 4 liter bag and maybe consider a 4 liter clean bag. What's nice is that all of the Platypus components are interchangeable, so you can tailor the system to whatever your needs are.

Rated5out of5byGRfromGreat filter! We used this filter in the Cruces Basin Wilderness of New Mexico in the summer of 2013. It worked very well. My only complaint is that the zip-top to the "dirty" reservoir was sometimes hard to close and the bottle adapter only worked with some of my water bottles. Otherwise, I was completely happy. It filtered like a champ...very fast and did an excellent job. There was a caterpiller blight hitting the Aspens in this wilderness and the darn things were dying and falling into the water and decomposing. So we were somewhat worried about the water. But the Platypus filter worked very well and we never were low on good clean water. The gravity feed system was excellent and saved us from having to manage and pump the filtering. A really excellent filter choice.

Rated5out of5bythetreesefromPerfect addition to my backpacking kitI bought this filtering kit for a group backpacking trip. This way we would not spend a lot of time down by the river pumping water.
This was an amazing addition to our camp site. I bought the 1 gal reservoir jug to always have water around, especially while we were cooking. This way we got to spend a lot more time hanging out with each other as a big group and no one was stuck squatting by the water trying to pump water into their nalgene.
Just open the dirty water bag, clear off a layer of bugs and floaties on the water and dunk the bag. It seems like three swipes of the bag into the water gets it full. then connect it to the filter hose and the water flows into the clean reservoir. after a few seconds I definitely recommend lifting the clean reservoir above the dirty bag to get all the air bubbles transferred to the dirty bag to make it flow faster.

Rated5out of5byMoose and SquirrelfromGreat productCan't think of any negatives about this.
Very light and takes up almost no room in the pack. It took a couple of tries to learn how to fill it effectively without using another container (act like you're quickly scooping up water -- 3-4 passes will do it.) The shutoff clip is effective and easy to use, and the hose will fill any container, not just hydration packs. Water came out clear and sweet.

Rated4out of5byBighornfromNeed clean water in a hurryThis water treatment system is very light weight, compact, fast and easy to use. The universal adaptor for various bottles is great. The instructions say don't disconnect the tubes from the filter after use which makes getting it back in its bag slightly difficult without kinking said tubing which might shorten tubing life.
