    • Ultra features an internal battery that's recharged from any USB power source; connect the included USB cable and start charging from a solar panel, laptop or car power port
    • Low-power indicator lets you know when battery needs recharging; you'll get about 40 treatments per charge
    • Ultraviolet (UV-C) light rays safely sterilize clear water by destroying 99.99% of protozoa (including Giardia and Cryptosporidia), bacteria and even viruses
    • SteriPEN protects you from risks that cause botulism, cholera, dysentery and typhoid, just to name a few
    • To purify your water, just press a button and gently agitate the water with a quick stir
    • Purifies 16 fl. oz. of water (cold or warm) in less than a minute; to treat 32 fl. oz., simply treat the water twice
    • Ultra is designed to fit perfectly into store-bought bottles of water; just insert the Ultra into the bottle, flip the bottle upside down and start treating the water
    • Small size fits most containers—use it in cups, mugs, water bottles and canteens
    • SteriPEN turns itself off once ultraviolet treatment is complete; can be used up to 8,000 times!
    • Watertight seals keep water away from the electronics; rubberized inset grips for secure handling in wet conditions
    • Long used by municipal water districts and bottling companies, low-level UV-C light treats water safely, and unit's light will not damage eyes or skin
    • Use only on clear water, as cloudy, sediment-laden water hinders effectiveness; FitsAll prefilter (sold separately) clears particulates and debris from water
    • Includes SteriPEN Ultra water purifier, USB cable, carrying case and instruction manuals

SteriPEN Ultra Water Purifieris rated4.0out of5by13.
Rated5out of5byfromUSE THIS FOR TRAVEL TO ASIA!!I used the Steri-pen EVERY DAY for a month in Nepal in July 2013. In Nepal, even bottled water is not safe to drink (as indicated by the WHO). I filtered through the 40 Micron Fits-All filter, first, then twist that filter out and put the Steri-pen in and shake gently for 90 seconds until smiley face pops up. The USB charge lasted the entire month! Also, since I home-stayed with poor families who normally have to boil water for their boarders, the Steri-pen eliminated the need for using costly cooking fuel.

Rated4out of5byfromGreat addition to traveler's gearWhen I've gone to countries without safe drinking water in the past I would buy a gallon of water to keep in my hotel room, fill up my water bottle for the morning and have to buy more water when out for the day and my initial supply ran out. I decided to try the steri on a recent trip and am certain it worked in countries where the water was unsafe to drink. I found it freeing to be able to just have a vendor pour tap water into my water bottle and sterilize it instead of needing to find somewhere that sells water bottles and feeling wasteful for using them. I'd recommend the ultra over the battery powered steri pens because the batteries those take are pretty pricey and bulky. This doesn't take long to charge at all and lasted me several days per charge. The only thing I'd like them to include are better instructions about its use. Can it be used in hot coffee? Will it sterilize ice in your drink? (To be safe I'd think not). I also noticed it somehow changing a bit with more use- like recommending an additional 45 seconds for my 1.5 liter bottle, something it didn't "know" to suggest initially. Overall maybe just me being dorky and wanting it to tell me more about how it works instead of researching on my own. Love the product though!

Rated1out of5byfromFaulty Equipment - ReturnedI purchased the product prior to a backpacking trip. Luckily, I had backup methods for water purification, as the SteriPen would not hold a charge and would not work, even after plugging in overnight and in the car adaptor on the drive to the trail. I returned for a full refund and have not repurchased. I may try again in the future, as I really like the idea of the product.

Rated4out of5byfromWorks Great! This product works great. So far I've used it overseas to purify tap water and for a four day backpacking trip in Yosemite. I have never been sick from using it so far. The positives are that it's compact and quick to use and dry. You can even use it while you're hiking. The only downside is that without the filter there are some little floaties if you're filling up from a stream.

Rated4out of5byfromEasy to use and fastI recently bought the Steripen Ultra for a multi-day backpacking trip in the Adirondacks. I love that it is lightweight, small and fast. I especially liked being able to fill bottles at the river and then bring them back to the campsite to purify the water instead of having to do it at the source. I put some pantyhose over a small 1L soft bottle for filtering purposes then poured the water into a wide mouth Nalgene to purify and it worked great! The steripen let me know right away if I didn't have the pen far enough into the water and I got the frowny face.

Rated5out of5byfromTakes the guesswork out!I've used this product on a couple of different occasions and it has been a wonder each time! The water sensors are easier to keep in the water than the previous steripen editions I've used. The interface is easy to read in direct sunlight and makes the process very user friendly. There is no guess work with this product, it has a countdown timer on it that lets you know how much longer you have until it is finished. The smiley face at the end is cute, but the other things it shows you at the end is more useful. It shows you the (rechargeable) battery strength and the approximate condition that the bulb is in. I've used this on multiple long day trips so I don't have to carry a lot of water with me. I've only used it on 1 overnight but this thing has yet to show me a hiccup. I charged the battery when I got it a couple of months ago and it hasn't budged yet, even with heavy use on the extended day trips. Having a rechargeable battery in the thing is very nice. Having it be recharged by USB is even better, I can recharge it off my solar charger if I had to.

Rated4out of5byfromExcellent use in the backcountryI just completed the John Muir Trail using this as my sole water purification method. I had bleach as a backup, but didn't have to use it. The Steripen worked flawlessly for me every time, and left me confident that my water was pure. The only issue I had was one time when the battery indicator showed a half charge, but when I inserted the pen in the water, it flashed a frown face and showed inadequate battery level. Fortunately I had a solar battery charger and was able to recharge the battery and continue using the pen. After that I made sure to recharge the battery whenever the charge indicator went below 3/4. I had to buy a Nalgene bottle that had a mouth wide enough to fit. The bottle had to be quite full for the pen to reach deep enough. Otherwise it was convenient and simple to use.

Rated4out of5byfromLight and EasyLighter and smaller than my pump filter and no chemical taste added to water. Get the pre-filter to help get particulates out. I've used it in Idaho's high mountain lakes and creeks which are clean to begin with. If your water source is going to be muddy, use a tradition pump filter.
