The Salomon Ellipse GTX hiking shoes provide waterproof protection in a lightweight, agile and resilient design for all-weather, fast-paced hiking.
- Breathable and abrasion-resistant nylon mesh uppers feature synthetic leather overlays that wrap and secure insteps for a precise fit; toe caps provide protection
- Gore-Tex® waterproof liners let feet breathe while protecting them from the elements, keeping them dry and comfortable
- Polyester mesh linings wick moisture away from your feet to keep them comfortable
- EVA midsoles cushion each step, and feature molded arch shanks for support and fit
- OS Tendon thermoplastic urethane frames run along the outsoles of the shoes to facilitate heel-to-toe transitions and push-off efficiency

I'm preparing for a section hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon this summer. I wanted a good sturdy pair of waterproof hiking shoes. I've taken these out for a couple of hikes to see how they feel and they are a winner! My feet feel good whether I hike 10 or 20 miles.

Most impressive: No break-in required at all and very light weight. I used these shoes for the first time (with no prior breaking in) on an 11.2 mile strenuous hike over long & steep terrain including uphill/downhill and over roots & rocks. The shoes remained perfectly comfortable, supportive, and light for the entire hike. I expected to have issues around mile 4 or 5 and was pleasantly surprised to be perfectly comfortable at the end of this hike.
Achilles Bursitis: My previous mid-height hiking boot aggravated my right Achilles Bursa (retrocalcaneal) to the point I was not going to be able to hike even short distances in them. I was having a difficult time finding a shoe or boot that did not aggravate it. Even regular tennis shoes were problematic. The Salomon Ellipse did not rub the back of my heel or aggravate my Achilles bursa issue at all. There seems to be a wider opening that avoids the Achilles bursa area. This was a big relief and the primary reason I changed hiking shoes in the first place.
Stability: The Salomon Ellipse kept my arches and ankles well supported over very steep rocky root-covered terrain.
Traction: I noticed approximately 15% less traction with the Salomon Ellipse vs my regular mid-height hiking boots. I slipped over some of the dry rocky areas where I do not recall ever slipping in my mid-height boot. Traction is the only downside to this shoe I have noticed so far.

I wear these every other day while walking; If I didn't like to alternate shoes I would wear them every day. They were comfortable from the moment I put my feet in them. I like the tread to make walking in muddy or slanted areas safer. I like the looks but mainly, they feel very good.

Recently got these for moderate-level day hikes and absolutely love them. Great fit, incredibly comfortable, and unbelievably lightweight allowing me to feel mobile while also aggressive enough to get the job done. And, as another reviewer pointed out, the leather is synthetic, so a great cruelty-free find. Haven't had them long enough to comment on durability, but no reason to think they won't hold up well. Ended up getting them in a size 9 whereas I'm consistently a 9.5-10 in regular (non-hiking) shoes.

This shoe is great. A lot of shoes you have to work in when you get them. I used this shoe the first time and they did great. They were super comfortable and very light, great for a long distance hiker like myself. A bit about my feet: I have wide, flat feet, and this shoe worked well with my feet, not too narrow as I find most shoes are, and the lightness makes the long distance feel even less. Love the lace tie-ups and the sturdy feel over all. Finally a nice light hiking shoes that fits and looks good as well.

These shoes are great! I go hiking twice a week and I finally needed to replace my Merrell shoes. I knew I was going on a long backpacking trip when I was searching for a new pair of boots. I'm not a fan of boots being above the ankle, but that's just my thing. I wanted a pair that would be waterproof because I new I was going to be crossing some creeks on certain hikes. During my trip I slipped by a creek that was literally ice cold and my feet were first into the water. My feet and socks didn't get wet! These are also breathable on warmer days, which is hard to find with waterproof shoes. They also gave great support while carrying a lot of weight in my pack. I wore them on 2 warm-up hikes to see if I needed to break them in, and it wasn't necessary. These are super comfy!
