Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

Osprey's Manta 36 pack has definitely met my needs and I'm pleased I bought it. Brought pack to Pinnacles National Park for day hiking over 2 days. Walked up to High Peak and hardly noticed the backpack suspended on my back; and I was carrying 17-20 lbs of camera gear and other things...very stable feel. Also, the pack did well when moving around and through the Balcony caves...I didn't have to take it off.

Great ventilation, my back was consistently dry, even at 92°F in mid/late spring. (WE 4/27). Great to have all those pockets for additional water bottles and small stuff.

Positioning the pack on your back properly is key to having a good experience with any pack and the Manta feels just right when it rides low on your hip so that the lower frame bar is not resting on the small of your back and, instead, sits on the tops of you hip. I've have bad experiences with packs that "dig" into your small of the back causing aching/some numbing and discomfort. Best to get the REI backpack fit when you're looking for the right size.

Also, the Manta works just as well on my back when I'm road cycling in Healdsburg/Sonoma riding and wine tasting. There's lots of room for a couple of wine bottles and your packed lunch/picnic stuff and some camera gear. But not all in that order. haha :-)

Hands down, a great pack. Very pleased.

Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

I use this pack everyday riding to and from work. I sometimes need to take a shower, but most of the time just need a way to transport my coffee and bag lunch. The expandable-ness of this pack is exactly what i needed. Enough space to carry larger items, clothes, towels, groceries etc...but compacting enough to not feel bulky when just carrying my lunch. The 2" airspace on the back is the main reason I was interested in this pack. On the days I dont need to shower at work its nice to arrive without a shirt soaked from my backpack. Loving it so far and always getting compliments from friends on how cool it is. Well worth the extra money.

Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

As of yet I've been able to use this pack on several day hikes and will be doing some overnights soon. I love that it has a 3 liter bladder, which I'll admit can be slightly heavy if you are trying to shave weight but I've only come close to running out of water once on a fairly strenuous 9 mile day hike. Which really impressed me because I was in no way trying to ration my water out. It's also fit all my fall/summer layers with ample room to spare, I'm planning on using it on some overnighters with a tent and bag, I'm sure one of which will need to be strapped into the outside of the bag. Which brings me to my only real disappointment, there isn't really any strap points for larger accessories. I think they did a great job of offering points to strap on smaller gear like bike helmets and hiking poles though. Overall I find this pack to be very comfortable. I never feel chaffing or binding and the airspace that is provided along your back is great, my back hasn't ever gotten hot and sweaty due to the pack reading against it. And with Ospreys guarantee it was an easy, no worry purchase. All in all I'm extremely satisfied.

Love almost everything about this backpack, the material, spacious pockets, side access to main pouch, but the chest strap fastener with the magnetic holder broke on the first hike.

Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

It just arrived yesterday, and with the 20% off sale, free shipping, and my dividend, it only cost a bit over $100. That was a good start. I spent about an hour checking it out and fitting it, filling and rinsing out the bladder. I was very impressed with every aspect. I own several hydration packs, and I consider the Manta to be a superior product in most every way.

I purchased this pack to do long distance, backcountry, bicycle tours - like The Great Divide. I wanted a pack that would provide loads of space for gear, plus H2O. On a MTB, leaning forward, the load needs to carry well; otherwise the lower back begins to bark. It looked good at first blush.

So I filled the bladder (the rigid handle makes this extremely easy), loaded in some munchies and extra clothing, pumped up the tires on my Specialized Carve, and hit the road. Total load for this initial ride was about 15 lbs. At 10 miles out it started to rain, so I threw on the built-in rain cover, and continued on.

I never felt any discomfort, everything seemed easy to access, and the fit was great (I am 5'9" and I ordered the S/M pack). The rain cover is quick and easy on/off. I really like the many outside stash pockets. One of them is large enough to stash my helmet, and I can carry 2 additional water bottles, one on each side. New for me was the magnetic attachment for the drinking valve. Attaching it back to the sternum buckle after drinking takes a bit of getting used to, but by the end of the ride it seemed much easier. My only negative comment has to do with how the drinking tube exits the hydration sleeve. My other packs use a nice little opening for this purpose, but the Osprey exits the zippered opening. That just seems funky, but does not have any impact on function.

I think this pack will do everything I wanted it to do, and I can heartily recommend it to others. This is a well designed and built product.

Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

I love this pack! At first I had some leakage issues, and found others did as well in my research, but was loathe to return, so I carefully examined my process and discovered that I wasn't threading the cap properly, and reconciled that, and also test before zipping it in. Also, the valve that attaches to the bottom of the reservoir can be pulled out, so give it and encouraging shove, to make sure it hasn't dislodged when removing it to refill. It was simply operator error. I've had zero mold issues, unlike my experience other reservoirs. I day hike regularly for 5+ hours and never run out of water. Also, main compartment keeps things cool due to this gigantic reservoir, the only water heated up is in the hose. This is not a light weight pack but the suspension is so well designed, it matters not! I've had this for a year and would purchase it again if I had to.

Comments about Osprey Manta 36 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:

Took this to try it out to a light hike, Rattlesnake Ledge (4.0 miles RT). It went awesome! The pack was comfy and hydration flows well. The rare-earth magnetize bite valve attachment is great. So you know where it always is and not dangling around .

The Osprey hydration bladder is better than the camelback ones. The Osprey's bladder is very sturdy and looks more durable.

This pack is not designed for overnight because there's not a lot of straps to use for tents and so forth. However, I'm still going to use this for an overnight in Mt. Pilchuck this summer.

I already went to REI and we test fitted:

+20 Sleeping bag - Main compartment and still has room
BA Copper Spur UL2 Tent - Floating pocket
1.5 Sleeping pad - Floating pocket

There's more I can fit if we start using compression stuff sacks.

I'll update this once I take it to an overnight hike.
