Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for cycling I bought this pack primarily for commuting to work by bike (16 miles each direction) in the heat and humidity we enjoy here in the Midwest. When you ride in high humidity, your sweat doesn't evaporate easily, and you simply end up drenched in sweat. A conventional backpack just soaks that sweat up from your back, making it heavy and gross. The Manta, however, puts only an open mesh against your back, allowing air to flow through, keeping the pack dry, and preventing hot spots. It's also highly stable due to the combination of hip straps, chest strap, and load straps. In addition, despite its compact size, it has enough capacity to hold a 12.5" laptop easily, and a 14" laptop in a pinch. It's good enough that I can happily commute to work without the use of a rack and bag/panniers, though that's a good option, too. The Manta isn't necessarily a cycling-specific backpack, of course. I haven't had an opportunity to use it for hiking yet, but I'm confident it will do very well. I also haven't had occasion to use the included reservoir yet, but it seems like a nicely built piece and very well matched to the pack. Overall, a fantastic pack!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the pack, the water bladder not so I bought this Osprey pack to replace my 20ltr Camelback RimRunner. The Osprey offered a lot more organization, comfort and simply more room. While I love this pack I am not a huge fan of the bladder. The hose does no disconnect from the bladder forcing you to remove the hose from the straps every time you need to fill or clean it. The bladder also does not have an easy way to prop it open to dry as the Camelback line does. I just ended up doing a little rigging on the internal straps and I have fit my old Camelback bladder into the Osprey pack. Couldn't be happier. Two other things I though were kind of odd if that there is no dedicated "slot" to thread the hose through the pack, you just leave it unzipped so the hose can come through. Also while I think the magnetic bite valve is cool there is no way to move it from the left to the right side of your chest as it is build into the sternum strap buckle. I guess I could always just buy an extra magnet to move it but you think they would have thought of this in the design process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breezey Hikes!! I got this pack for the use that it is intended: Day Hikes and light trips. Worked great as a quick overnighter back to a friends house. Fell in love with this pack even more on my first hike to Beale Falls (aka Fairy Falls) this last weekend! The mesh panel really allows for air flow to your back, and pack doesn't get soaked in sweat. The waist belt did hold in some moisture, but not bad and dried quickly in the long run. For the size I got it held: snacks(nature bars, bag of fruit gummies, and some crackers), keys, bug sprays, inhaler, cell phone, long sleeve shirt, spare socks/underwear (you never know), and full water bladder. I still had plenty of room to spare! One of my best investments for hiking! Definitely better than hiking with a school style pack or an Alice Pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Day Pack! I love everything about this pack! I picked it up after doing a lot of research on hydration/day packs and I can honestly say it's top of the line. I often take it out on 5 to 10 milers, but also tote it along when backpacking to use on short range hikes from camp. For starters the size is just right (I was fitted for a small). It adjusts easily, is snug without leaving me feeling restricted, and is lighter than air (even with 3 liters of water, a puffy jacket, medi-kid, food for the day and a few other small items tucked inside). There are numerous pockets in all the right places, slots for tools on the inside and outside, helmet and bike light specific attachment loops, stow and go for trekking poles, compression strapping to sinch and compact everything down and an integrated rain cover. The hydration reservoir is the best I have ever seen, with the small exception of the lid (it's gotten a little difficult to turn of late). The rigid design is easy to fill and even easier to get into and out of the pack. The bite valve works great and can be turned so that it won't leak; not to mention the heavy duty magnet that keeps it firmly in place right on the chest strap for easy access. With the very miniscule caveat about the reservoir lid (which doesn't affect the packs performance in any way), I have nothing bad to say about the Manta 28. It's great, and I'd buy it again. Coupled with the almighty guarantee, this is a total win for Osprey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Day Hiker I'm impressed with the Osprey/Nalgene collaboration for the hydration system, it's all very logical and has worked well for me so far. The pack is comfortable, the compression straps have not failed me yet and the weight rides on my hips. More than enough room to carry what ever gear I deem necessary (I keep adding weight to increase my stamina at altitude).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful size I needed a hydration pack with a panel load. (I hike with kids and have learned that a panel makes it much easier to locate items buried deep in the pack). I love Osprey packs, the customer and warranty service is terrific.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for a Half Dome hike This was a perfect pack for my Half Dome hike this summer. Plenty of room for all the water and gear I needed for an 18-mile, 12-hour hike. My only complaint is that the plastic loop used to secure hiking poles can jut right out into your swinging arms while hiking. Very comfortable pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great 30-40lb pack I really like the pack overall. I just don't have enough adjustment to get it tight around my waist (size: 34 weight: 185) to support the weight. I bought the M/L to fit my 6' frame and wide shouldes better. Anyway a small blanket fixed this issue.
