REI Flash Insulated Air Sleeping Padis rated4.0192out of5by52.
Rated4out of5byfromGood valueI m 6'4" and 250lbs as well as a side sleeper. I find this pad to be very comfortable and fits will in my Big Agnes Scout UL2 tent. I give 4 stars cause the inflate flap failed once prompting to me to exchange it. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. At 46 years old I like my comfort :)

Rated5out of5byfromBest sleeping pad ever for a great priceI bought this pad on a month long cross country road trip and loved it every time I used it. I also took it to camp for 3 weeks at the foot of a glacier in Iceland. I slept on very rocky terrain, and this thing held up great and was really comfortable. It holds air really well, is warm, and the separate butterfly valves for air in and out is genius. It packs to the size of a Nalgene and is super light. I would(and have) recommended this to anybody who wants a bomber pad for a reasonable price.

Rated1out of5byfromNice, but serious design flawThe pad is great except for a simple design flaw that seriously detracts from its reliability. I chose this pad after considerable research and tried it out a few times in the comfort of my home. About the 5th time I found that I could not inflate it to capacity because the pad, about the size of a nickel, which covers the inside of the intake port had slipped off its moorings. Without this pad, which acts as a valve to keep air escaping, it is impossible to fully inflate the pad. The inside of the intake port includes two plastic prongs and the pad is secured on these prongs with a simple friction fit, plastic on plastic. When inflating the Flash you push against the pad, gradually easing it off the prongs; it seems bound to fall off into the Flash. I took my Flash to my local REI to check against new pads. The first Flash I pulled from the shelf already had a missing pad, it had apparently fallen off during an in-store demo. A second new flash had its pad intact. A REI associate helped me locate the pad inside my own Flash and re-secure it. I took my flash home and am now trying, for the 3d time, to glue the pad in place. The problem is getting adhesive to hold on the plastic parts. I've found that if you are fast you can fill the Flash to what feels like 85% capacity without the pad; a little squishy but usable. When the pad falls off you can locate it by laying the Flash out and feeling for it, then reattach. This would be hassle in the cold. I am on my final trial with fixing the Flash; after this it goes back to the store.

Rated2out of5byfromGood... except for the leaksEverything was good about it until my 5th night, when it started chronically leaking. Now I have to reinflate once or twice a night.

Rated4out of5byfromSmall package, lightweightHaving used an air foam self inflate previously I thought I'd give this a try since it has a much smaller pack size and weight. While it worked well and I do like it, I don't like it as much as the foam air pads. It is very nice and if you like air pads, it's probably perfect for you. Also, the material does leave you wondering how cautious you have to be with it as it feels thin and fragile.

Rated5out of5byfromLight, Warm, Durable, ComfyI have been looking for the "right pad" for a while. This pad is super light (and better yet super compact). The best thing about this pad is the valve system (copies the exped mats). I have been unfortunate with pads that develop micro-leaks at their valves, especially with pads that have the twist valve. This pad does it right, so you aren't up every 3 hours inflating your pad. Also, the "tubes" on this pad are very close, unlike the REI stratus pad. This makes for a more comfortable surface. Also, the surface is very flat so you don't feel like you're sleeping on a bunch of lumps. It's also really warm. I took it down to 18 degrees (using my 20 degree down bag and wearing long underwear, a hat, and socks) and stayed toasty. My only, quibble is that this pad is slippery. Perhaps, I will put small dots of seamgrip/silicone where my shoulders and butt touch the pad. Perhaps this will reduce slipping. If I ever upgrade, I think I would buy the Exped Synmat UL7 (sooo comfy), but for a $65 difference...eh. The Flash pad is great value - light, warm, durable, and comfy! Good job REI!

Rated4out of5byfromOne of the bestIt was a toss up with so many small pads out there, I was finally able to decide on the REI flash. Most of the REI flash series is superb. it is highly packable, sized as marketed, and seemingly durable. Time will tell. Overall, very happy with this pad.

Rated4out of5byfromGreatA great product that really delivers. I'm a side sleeper and my old Therm-A-Rest 3 season foam pad just didn't provide enough loft. This pad works great and seems to be very durable. I've bivy hunted on it for three trips and slept on it for almost two solid weeks. The insulation value seems a bit light but it still offers acceptable insulation for the type of pad. I used it at around 30 Deg. Feh. without getting cold from the ground. I use this pad inside my Mountain Hardware Bivy Conduit SL and it seems to stay put well but it also fits snug so there isn't much room for slippage. It takes approximately 17 large breaths to inflate from me and has a nice inflate/deflate system. It is compact but a bit long. It's half the diameter of my old Therm but almost twice as long. Seems to take up less room though. Would highly recommend; the cost was very competitive compared to the other brands.
