The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Brooks PureGrit 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Better traction pattern than Pure Grit original shoes, and I believe a more armored toe-box. Be careful when you put them on, to ensure the too-soft heel top is not folded down on your heel.

Comments about Brooks PureGrit 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
The Brooks PureGrit 2 is my first foray into a more minimal running shoe and I absolutely love them. The BioMoGo mid sole and sock liner/insert are very cushioning and springy, the tread is low profile lugs, not as deep as some trail shoes, but ample. The concave outsole/midsole is an interesting feature giving you more suspension between your body and the ground.
My first impression taking the PureGrit 2 out on a trail run was light, fast and happy feet quick stepping up and down the slick, rocky, mucky trails of Portland's Forest Park. The feeling is much more free and more sensory tuned that traditional running shoes while still providing forefoot cushioning and traction.
These shoes are replacing Salomon XA PRO 3D ULTRA trail running shoes, which I love but I'm transitioning away from traditional built up heel supports and aggressive lugs and too much foot armor. Salmons fit my feet great and I absolutely love their speed lacing system but their minimal trail shoe just didn't feel right to me.
After trying on many different option I went with the Brooks because the wrapped my foot in a very natural way and had great feel and response while providing enough room for my wide forefoot and narrow heel.
One thing that's importnat to know running with more minimal shoe will require some getting used to if you're not accustomed to it. After years of heel striking and running with soes that have large heel ramps any minimal shoe is going to use new muscles and even possibly cause some injury if you do too much too soon. I found that needed to switch back and fourth between the Brooks and the Salomons for a few runs to allow my muscles to addapt. It's almost like learning to run all over again, not knowing where to land on your foot. My achilles and calf muscles were a little shocked doing 5-7 mile trial runs and steep hills but after a few weeks they are back to normal.
My running form is changing and I can feel that I'm more efficient. I tried putting my old shoes back on last week for a trail run and they just felt like klunky ski boots.
I hightly recomend researching running form and transitioning to more minimal footwear. I'm loving the natuarl and free feel of these shoes while still getting plenty of grip and protection from rocky trails. I ran 8 miles on Eagle Creek and these shoes were a dream on the wet, rocky decent. I was really able to dictate how and where my feet landed giving me a lot of control over an otherwise sketchy terain.
Finally, I'm a normal size 10 with a wide forefoot and narrow heel. Many shoes don't fit me right, but Asics, Brooks and Salomon are usually safe bets. I went with the 10.5 which I was worried was going to be too long in the toe, but now they just seem perfect on long messy runs.
I definitely recomend these to anyone who is looking to get away from traditional shoes. I really have nothing bad to say about them. I've seen some reviews online that nit pick the lacing or tread, but really it just comes down to personal taste. If it works for you great, if not there are other options. I think you'll love 'em!

Comments about Brooks PureGrit 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I bought these shoes after having a good experience with the brooks pure flow road shoes. I prefer a midfoot strike. They fit exactly the same and feel almost the same. The new tongue style and asymmetrical lacing take a bit more effort to get tied right, but do work very well. I bought these shoes specifically for running trails when the weather is not great and the mountain bike trails are too muddy. They do well in normal wet conditions and grip wet rocks and logs adequately. These do not have the deep mud traction of hiking boots or shoes designed specifically for mud, but are a big improvement over the first generation pure grit and put road shoes to shame. Foot protection seems adequate without being too stiff or too heavy. Very lightly cushioned, but NOT a barefoot style shoe. I choose these over my merrell trail gloves most of the time because of the extra rock protection and traction. Dig in your heels to stop on a slick downhill and you will slide around some, but no complaints uphill or flat. I haven't soaked them in a stream yet, but they have been fine in the rain.

Comments about Brooks PureGrit 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I've had the Pure Grit first release and while I was happy with how they felt, traction on slick/wet rock was always a concern. Pure Grit 2 has a much better traction system and they seem to have kept the same overall fit as their first release. I like their new lacing style (and the fact that they don't get untied every other mile!). I've run distances up to 50 miles in these on technical trails and this is likely going to be the pair of shoes I choose for all my 50k+ distance races this year.

Comments about Brooks PureGrit 2 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I won't bore you with a long drawn out analysis of the shoe. Basically the shoe's upper possesses too much material; resulting in dramatic folding during the tightening of laces. Furthermore, one the full flex/compression of the shoe the toe box folds inward creating folds that forcefully rub the toes (causing blisters).
The design is very new age and involves asymmetrical lacing. This lacing system looks nice but is not applied well to this shoe. Furthermore, the lacing limits the number of people who can where the shoe comfortably. A poor move on the part of Brooks (and a failed move on the part of Asicis, who have since gone back to standard lacing.
Brooks' upbeat design is eye catching and shoes feel comfortable in the store; but when you're really putting some miles on these shoes, you quickly realize they're not made for that. Hope this helps.
I gave it 2 stars for the grip and cushion of the shoe, which was marvelous!
