Rated5out of5byJlwsbwfromPerfectI am a life long fan of several other high end competitors. However, this REI jacket is hands down the best rain jacket I've owned in my many years of using outdoor gear. My first serious rain jacket was a goretex jacket bought in the early 90s that served me well up until this year. It was time to replace it, and I tried several other options from the usual competitors. When it came to fit and finish, the REI jacket won hands down due to it's less than boxy fit that some of the other brands had. There was also one huge advantage on the rei jacket: elasticized cuffs. This one small feature makes taking the jacket off a breeze and you don't have to undo the velcro around the wrists each time. In the one week I've owned this jacket my city has received 3-5" of rain, 2 tornadoes one of which was a couple miles down the road, and hail. While I only ventured outside during the rain portion, I stayed dry, and the hood stayed perfectly in place, not too big and not too small. With my 20% off the jacket was a steal! I highly highly
recommend this jacket for any outdoor enthusiast.

Rated4out of5byAndrew WfromGreat Jacket - backpacking & day hikesAbout Me:
I use this jacket as an essential part of my packing list for day hikes (up mountains including 14,000' peaks) and backpacking trips. I'm 6'7" and 275lbs. I needed a big rain jacket that was long enough for me, and this fits the bill perfectly. I tried multiple jackets on in the store, and nothing came close to the perfect fit of this one.
About the Jacket:
-Contra other reviewers: the hood does roll up. Roll the hood into itself, and then use the velcro tab near the back of the neck to velcro the hood into its rolled position.
-I love the simplicity of this jacket: just enough velcro (only on the cuffs and 2 patches near the top of the front zipper-rather than all the way), a single snap button at the bottom of the front zipper, 3 large pockets, and it packs into its own pocket (which is labeled)
-I also love that it has: a really large hood that is adjustable, pit zips, and is wind/waterproof
-I said a 'con' of the jacket is its breathability. Let me explain: You can open the pit zips & the front zipper enough that this jacket will keep you dry from rain while still being breathable inside. However, I think REI's material is not as breathable as some other stuff out there (i.e. Mountain Hardwear's material). I was hiking in very wet conditions with a 40lbs backpack and this jacket got very clammy after a couple hours even with the pit zips all the way open and the front zipper open a bit. For me, this jacket is breathable enough, and I'm okay with that because it has a great fit.
-Finally, as others have said: I wish this came in more colors than just black.

Rated5out of5byBlairRfromA perfect fit.Works great whether I am using it on a wet hike or just wearing it to work, it looks great as a casual wear item or a outdoor item. Love the breath-ability of it, I get hot so easily so being able to open it up even in wet weather helps.

Rated4out of5byjarbrofromLove it, butLove it so far. The under arm vents are spacious and do a great job. I cannot seem to figure out what the velcro is for behind the neck.
When zipping up - the zipper catches more often than not. I'm going to have to slow down my up-zip to keep this puppy in good shape.

Rated5out of5byPRB914fromThis will be my go protectionI'm 6'1" @ 220#. The XXL tall fit perfect.
I hike in the Rockies 1-2 days (weekly)for 30+ weeks a year. This jacket keeps me warm, dry, and breathes well. It packs down to a double handfull, and is very light weight, there is no reason to not always have it my pack. Here the weather goes from sun to rain/snow back to sun in minutes, and this jacket is everything I need. It was all I needed on a couple of -10 degree mornings. I've not had a better go to jacket.

Rated4out of5byrhinolithfromGreat jacketI wish the hood was stowable but at least it zips off, which is good enough (but possible to lose). I also wish the yellow was available in 2XL Tall but black is the only color available in Tall. Bottom line: great overall rain jacket.

Rated5out of5byBAPICfromGreat All Season, Do Everything JacketBefore getting this jacket I tried the Torrentshell, Precip and checked out the LL Bean Stowaway and Marmot Oracle. This jacket ended up having just about everything I was looking for, ample storage, good for layering, well ventilated, velcro & elastic cuffs, large hood, lined collar, comfortable, light weight, quiet, packable and well featured. The only con I have with this jacket which won't bother some is I prefer the hood to stow in the collar. This one rolls up (nicely and much better then the precip's and torrentshell) and it is removable - which is great. The oracle's hood stows but you don't have elastic on the cuffs, you have to use the hook and loop each time you put the jacket on and take it off and it is more expensive. Over all, features to price this jacket offers the most features, storage and best all around 4 season usability. Still a 5 star even though I prefer the hood to stow in the collar.
