Rated4out of5byfromREI Adventure Pants Continue to EvolveThe new adventure pants lose the external zipper pocket below the standard pocket on the left side, but add an internal zipper pocket inside the left pocket. I suspect it was designed for passports. But the right-side external zipper pocket remains--a very handy place for stuff you want to carry but don't want cluttering your main storage pocket. The zipper on the left rear pocket was eliminated, making it much easier to extract a handkerchief therefrom. A watch-pocket was added, not that many people carry pocket watches anymore, but I find it handy for my lens cloth. The small interior pocket inside the right-hand pocket was retained--I find this interior pocket extremely irritating--so much so that I only give these pants a four-star rating instead of a five-star. Something inevitably gets caught in this little pocket and becomes difficult to find and extract when I need it. If I drop change into my pocket, I never know if it will go into the main pocket or the little pocket, so I have to dig for change in two different pockets. I find it particularly irritating when my keys end up in the smaller pocket and are difficult to extract. The rear of the cuff is now reinforced, making it wear longer--an excellent idea. The belt loops were rearranged--I think I liked the old method of regular spacing better than having two rear loops close together, but they still seem to work, so I suppose it's no big deal. Overall, these are great pants for both travel and daily wear. They are lightweight, so are not ideal for cold weather, but I'm in Texas and I wear them year round.

Rated3out of5byfromNew design: Plus and MinusI have both the old and new designs. I like the new material because it is thinner and comfortable. However it turns out the new material is hardly durable. I've been wearing the old ones for more than a year and they are still good. The new one tore at the base of zip/crotch area after wearing it for just 5 times. I wish REI will make more of these in other colours.

Rated2out of5byfrommy favorite pants are now unusableI loved the previous version of these pants, but I found that the current version is a major step backward for my use and is now almost unusable. I wear a 30" inseam for all my other pants, but for these pants the 28" inseam seems like a better fit for me. I eventually had 2 pairs of these pants from 2010-2012 in a couple of colors each that I rotated through. I typically wore these pants everyday at home, work, and especially during my many trips in the US and Europe. They had two zippered back pockets as well as the two zipped side pockets which were wonderful for travel and my lifestyle. I used both of the zipped hidden pockets all the time - one for my smartphone and one for a pretty small package of medical supplies that I must carry on me. The fit was pretty good, there was enough room for me to stash everything I needed to carry with me, they traveled well, they looked & worked great for all sorts of situtions. They were the best and most flexible pair of pants I have ever owned. Unfortunately after a few years of use I had a couple of incidents that messed up two pairs of my original REI Adventure pants (a cut and a stain) and I needed to replace them. I quickly went into the local REI to grab a couple of pairs off the rack. The sales guy saw that I was already wearing REI Adventure pants and told me that the new (2013) version of these pants had lost the zippered back left pocket, but gained a small zippered inner left front pocket. I grumbled a bit as I didn't want to lose any zippers (especially on the left as I'm a leftie), but I grabbed the only pair I could find in the previous size that worked well for me in these pants without trying them on as I was in a hurry about to leave on a trip. Big mistake. The 2013 version of these pants are much tighter on my thighs. They just felt overly tight when I put them on even before I put anything in my pockets. I found that when I slipped in my smartphone in my right side pocket, it wasn't very comfortable when I walked about. Then I found that the left side pocket was totally gone -- the REI sales guy forgot to mention this little detail. This really messed up how I used these pants. When I tried stuffing the medical supply bag that I used to put in the left side pocket into the left front pocket, I found that the front pockets for the 2013 Adventure pants were significantly smaller & tighter than the earlier version of these pants. I found that I couldn't even carry what I used to carry in my front pocket without feeling cramped. This was a huge disappointment. I can't say too much about the newer material wears as I haven't worn my newer Adventure pants much because of the smaller number and size of the pockets and the tighter fit, but I don't think that it looks and feels as nice as the older versions of these pants. I can hardly wear the current version of basically the only pants I wore the previous few years. What a shame. REI, you shouldn't have messed around so much with such a classic IMHO...

Rated5out of5byfromGREAT!!There are many complaining about the new fit of these. Everyone must be eating too many happy meals or something. Personally I say, "THANK GOD" they FINALLY created something to fit smaller, thinner people! Sizing is bang on. Length is bang on. I would in no way say these are 'tight'. I'd go so far as to say they're much like a good pair of jeans or khakis. They aren't so huge that you're swimming in them, they're relatively form fitting but they aren't going to cut off your blood circulation. They're a akin to modern fit jeans. I fully understand that 'range of motion' thing you're all talking about but to be frank, there are plenty of other options to choose from if you want to fee like you're wearing floaties on your legs while hiking. I actually own a few pairs and love them. But I also realize there are times you just don't want that feel. On to the pant. They've got two main pockets, one zippered one in the rear left. A zippered one in the rear right and a coin pocket as well. It even has a hidden zipped pocket on the right thigh. They are lightweight pants. Very water resistant, but I feel like they're not meant for cragging or strenuous hikes where thorns or bushwhacking may happen. BUT, you can double them up and wear them to work. These are some of the only pants that won't make you feel like MC Hammer on the trail. I love them. The 'slate' color is the best. The other is almost white in color, not my cup of tea to be frank. I had to order mine through the website to get my size and color. I Only wish they were about 10 bucks cheaper, they seem a little pricey for the materials used. Ordering several more so that you guys don't take this away from me. I've been searching for too many years for decent hiking pants and I feel like I've finally found a summer/spring pair. Now, for that cooler weather thing....

Rated4out of5byfromWell fitting pantsI do not have to have this pants altered, it fits me right from the shelf. I have two other pairs form previous years and I like this one best because it has the inner zipper pocket rather than having all pockets along the pant legs.

Rated5out of5byfromGreat pants for travelI bought several pair of these pants for a Safari in Tanzania. Great fit for me. Very lightweight and comfortable both on the long flights to and from Africa and while on the Safari. On the two occasions when I had to hand wash them, they dried relatively quickly. I'll be using these pants whenever I travel to warm climates.

Rated1out of5byfromNew version fails testI purchased these since I had purchased the REI Adventure pants in a previous year. When I received them I noted that the pocket arrangement was a bit different from the prior model, but not a deal breaker. Where these pants failed was in the fit. The thighs were cut so small that when I bent, sat, or crouched down the pants were skin tight on my thighs. They were more than uncomfortable. One would think they were a slim cut. Due to this I returned them. Bring back the cut of the previous version.

Rated1out of5byfromHad to return themI have 3 of the adventure pants from last year, was excited when they came out with 2 new colors for this year, ordered both. It is not the same as last years, I love the fit of last years model, had to return both the new ones, as the fit was very tight.
