I ski these boots very aggressively, favoring steeps/jump turns/bumps first, and high speeds as a close second. While I also ski a lot out west now, I'm certainly not on the same level when it comes to powder skiing. I'm 35, 5'11", 155lbs and started skiing at age 2 in eastern Canada.

This boot is meant to support strong skiers. The naturally solid and tight fit means you're no longer over-tightening poorly fitting or lesser boots. There should be no more need to cut off circulation to you feet just to feel more solidly connected with your skis with these bad boys. Seriously, I used to have a boot buckling routine at the top of the hill that would have left some snowboarders waiting for me. Just kidding. I don't ski with snowboarders :)

But, as stellar as these boots are, there may be some custom work required for those with certain foot/ankle shapes. The changes Lange made in recent years to the liner on these boots make them accessible to a broader range of foot sizes (Lange's sales skyrocketed). If you have a really wide foot, there's even a version with larger shell width. If you're on the border, though, you might discuss the possibility of sticking with the typical width with your boot fitter. They can do some pretty amazing things.

Regardless, one thing you should probably do is get rid of the insole. Particularly if you have a pronounced arch in your foot. I picked up a pair of Superfeet insoles (the green model) and the boot fitter trimmed them up for me. Super feet also offers a custom sole, but that's several times the $40 price tags on mine. These just make the support and overall fit even better.

One other thing... I initially considered the RX 130 boots, also made by Lange. It may be unfair for me to criticize them, since I only tried them on in the store at room temperature (boots stiffen in the cold). But, I found that the flex on these boots was characterized by a kind of bobbing that I feared would not give me the same kind of support/resistance. The RS 130s certainly do stiffen up, but I can say that the flex resistance has a more uniform feel at any given temperature. The RX 130 just creates unnecessary confusion. Manufacturers, bloggers, salespersons, and skiers themselves tend to over-categorize. Just know that these boots are the flagship of Lange. They're freakin' sweet!
