Rated4out of5byhiker9xxxxxfromgood light shell - odd sizingCondition: 01/11/14 on Grays and Torreys - Mid 20s w/ wind around ~30+ mph and afternoon whiteout condition with gust ~55+ mph. Windchill was in single digit and below 0.
Layers: long sleeve base, short sleeve shirt, thin OR synthetic mid and this shell.
The goods: I was warm the whole time. The hood was awesome. It stood up to the wind. I even had the pit vents open haftway.
The bads: It did not breath very well. There's too much condensation between my midlayer and this shell (even w/ the pit vents open.) The sizing is kind of odd (and this could just be my frame.) I'm 5'6" 135 and I had the small. Arm and back lengths were perfect. The chest and shoulder fitted right, but I felt like it was made for people w/ a big(ger) gut. The front is too short. My OR midlayer was exposed in the front.

Rated5out of5byLive your adventurefromMy favorite shell jacketI made the switch to Goretex a while ago and absolutely love it. This is the perfect waterproof shell jacket. It's a little pricey but you're getting a quality product. I wear it ice climbing as a shell jacket over my mid-layer puffy jacket and other layers. It is very durable and there was no damage to the fabric from putting the ice axes on my shoulder and them rubbing while climbing.
My helmet fit perfect under the hood and the adjusters on the hood kept the hood secured while climbing.
I also wear this as just a light rain jacket and when its just cool enough to need a light jacket.
I highly recommend this jacket and all Arcteryx products for that matter.

Rated5out of5byKahblouiefromMinimalist's dreamif you like simple designs then this is it. though I can appreciate the design, I would have preferred something with perhaps a powder skirt and maybe an extra pocket or two. besides that, I can't complain about the performance. arc'teryx knows their stuff, and the technology behind this jacket is awesome.

Rated5out of5byFisherman JimfromAwesome shellExcellent shell to wear alone or with a light jacket underneath (I wear my nano puff under it on chilly morning walks). I have been wanting this jacket for some time now and I am very pleased with the performance and looks. It has shed rain well and after I figured out how to adjust the hood it fits nicely too.

Rated5out of5byrisingstarfromGreat breathable hard-shellI'm wearing the small size and I like the color maze. I owned the theta SL. this is slightly shorter than theta SL. It is better than theta SL: (1) more breathable because part of the pro-shell is located under the arm instead of over the shoulder like theta SL. (2) a much better helmet adjustable storm hood. I definitely see more use than theta SL(which is in my opinion good for just backpacking hiking).

Rated5out of5byHiggyHiggyHiggyfromBest purchase within last 5 years!!!!!If you were on the market for a quality rain coat/top layer jacket that you wished to own for years to come, I couldnt possibly utter any other words than "Arc'Teryx Alpha Hybrid". I'd buy one for everyone in my family if I thought they'd actually use it. Do yourself a favor and buy it!!!!!
Fit is true to size and the L has a nice fit around waste so it doesnt flare out like most jackets do. Sleeves fit great and dont ride up my wrists when raising my hands which is usually the norm with my broad shoulders. North Face WHAT??? I will never go back.... Sorry NorthFace Lovers.

Rated5out of5byRK17fromTried and TrueI ended up getting the Arc'teryx SL Hybrid jacket on an exchange when I returned my Marmot Zion with Polartec NeoShell. To be very clear, the NeoShell fabric was AMAZING across the board, but the construction of the jacket failed along the seems on the shoulders and back after only two hours of driving rain. As bummed as I was to part with an otherwise perfect jacket, I opted for the Arc'teryx SL Hybrid jacket and couldn't be happier. It's super light, very durable, wind proof, water proof and very breathable. Breathability is a huge issue for me as I tend to get very warm, very easily. I've had it in conditions from the mid 30's with mist to driving rain in the 80's and was able to remain very comfortable. After all the other "waterproof/breathable" shells I've tried, the Arc'teryx SL Hybrid jacket with combo of Gore Tex Paclite & ProShell is the best shell I've ever owned hands down.
