          I have been using this hat every day that it has been cold, but not frigid, when I wear something heavier. When it's around 25F ~ 45F, this is almost perfect. It fits easily in my jacket pocket when I get on a train or go indoors. It also fits very well under my rain jacket's hood.

            I bought this hat for cooler weather, but not for snow camping. It is lighter weight, but it is just what I wanted when I didn't need a heavier and warmer beanie. It fits as I would expect and covers about half of my ears, which is exactly what I wanted. If you want a thermal hat, this is not the one for you. If you want a hat to keep your head warm in 40-50 degree weather or when traveling, then I would recommend it.

                  Comments about SmartWool Lid Beanie:

                  They completely changed the beanie from last years model. The stitching is more visible and sits on top of the beanie rather than having it neatly tucked inside of the hat.

                  Last years model sat neatly on top of my head; whereas this model rides much higher than the one I purchased last year. My friend, who convinced me to get last years beanie, has the same complaints as I do with this years model.

                  Why change a great design if it doesn't need it? Pretty disappointed!

                      I think I would like it if it were larger but i was hopping on taking this hiking to help keep my ears warm but it's to short and I find myself not using it at all. looking to replace it with something larger... Green was much darker then I expected.

                      I use product in 60F degree weather and the product was barley warm enough. I though the material and the way it wasn't very tight on my head was great. Once again warm is an issue but I recommend 60F+ weather and minimal wind. Overall it needs a little more improvement.

                        I bought this beanie in anticipation of an upcoming hike in December, and was looking for lightweight and breathable. I found just that.

                        This seems like a good beanie to wear all day while hiking, although I haven't tested it out in the wild, yet. I suppose we'll see.

                        Might be just a touch too light. Although, anything thicker may be too hot while hiking.
