The North Face Himalayan Mittensis rated3.6667out of5by3.
Rated4out of5byfromWarm but bulkyThese are really warm mittens. I have poor hand circulation and my hands get cold very easily. I use these mittens for biking when it gets very cold and they are warm and windproof. When I am biking below -5F or so I usually throw a heat pack in them to keep everything toasty. I also wore these walking to and waiting at the bus stop down to about -25F and they have been fine. They can get too warm if it is not real cold. For me the cutoff is around 10F depending on the conditions. I bring a pair of smartwool liners to put on under these mittens if my hands start sweating too much. The trade off for the warmth is that they are bulkly. This is actually a good thing for the bike handlebars since it gives you some insulation against the metal sucking all the heat from your hands. Depending on how your controls are set up though they may be more difficult to operate. I have small hands and was worried that the bulkness would couse fatigue on my rides but I have not had issues. I have been through many combos of mittens and/or pogies to try to keep my hands warm. These mittens are the only thing that has worked for me in the extreme cold.

Rated4out of5byfromWarm!While somewhat bulky, very warm and water proof. This is what I use when we have winter storms/snow events, and I need to clear our driveway etc. Also great for winter hiking/snowshoeing - as long as you put these on LAST :)

Rated3out of5byfromWarm but not for skiingNot for skiing I would say. Gripping and actually using poles feels like trying to do so with pillows on one's hands, which makes sense given the insolation. Better for just being outside in cold weather and perhaps some mountaineering, but grip is still problematic. Great for warmth, very comfortable, but not great for grip.
