Rated5out of5byUrban WoodsmanfromGreat versatile jacket, city or outdoorsI was looking for a 3-in-1 parka and had been comparing Patagonia's Tres and REI 3-in-1. I ended up going with the REI version which had the same stylish exterior and versatility (and much lower price) and I have not been disappointed. I bought it right before going out on a snowshoeing weekend and it worked wonderfully. Back in Seattle I have been able to use it keep warm when walking around town, take out the inner soft shell to wear around the house or on runs to the gym when it is colder, and used the shell when it is has been wet. I honestly have no complaints at this point.

Rated5out of5byDC82fromBest Jacket I OwnThis is hands down the best jacket that I've ever own. It is very well designed. One of my favorite features is that it has a zippered hand warmer pockets while also having its own lower button pockets. The zippered hand pocket let you securely store things while not utilizing the hand pocket. All the pockets are big so you can store thing such as your beanie cap, gloves, neck gaiter, knife, lighter, mini survival kit, etc. The pocket zippers are small so it cuts down on weight. Overall, for a jacket that has this many feature it is pretty light weight, which is a big plus and one of the things look for. The chest outer pockets also big. The zippers are small and well hidden. The inside of the shell also has a headphone exit in the pocket. Again, good size pockets and small size zipper to save weight, which is what I like. The main zipper pocket is a nice size, not small. This is exactly what I want as I don't want the main zipper to fail as it is suppose to handle more stress.
The inner jacket is not bad either. It is light weight and warm. Has two zippered hand warming pockets. A right front button pocket. It also has a nice inner pocket. To be honest, I do rock a 5.11 tactical series fleece jacket under the REI triad shell. The 5.11 inner jacket I rock underneath it has two front pocket, two zippered hand warmer and an inner pocket. It fits perfectly and also warm, but the main reason I use this jacket under the REI shell is because it has more pocket, which I like very much in a jacket. Unlike some of the other 5.11 inner fleece it doesn't have zippered arm sleeves and zippered sides, which I find it very unnecessary to an inner 3 in 1 jacket and finds that it adds a lot of weight.
This jacket is almost perfect. I would however like to see two button upper arm pockets. Maybe some wrist pocket to store pens and pencil if minimal weight is added . Lastly I would like to see a hood storage pocket like the 5.11 5 in 1 jacket in the back of the jacket (which is a heavy jacket). Again if REI can do this with minimal weight it would be an awesome jacket.
Would I recommend the REI triad?? easily without a doubt I would. I do wish that it came back in black and green. I have the green one and hoping to buy to one in black which is unavailable right now.

Rated5out of5byCoreboxfromhas it allI needed a new winter jacket, something that would block cold winds when playing around outside with my kids, or something that would repel water when sledding with them. I also have lots of things to jam into the pockets, so a lot of pockets was a must. The jacket has a lot of pockets and is very warm. I wore it on a 32 degree day and was almost too warm with the liner in it. Hopefully the durability will be a plus as well as I got about 10 years out of the North Face jacket I'm replacing with this one.

Rated5out of5byNoah3DfromGreat wind/water proof coat.I use this coat almost every day. Very water and wind proof, and very comfortable. Removable liner can be used a stand alone coat and is great when there isn't any rain in the forecast. Highly recommended.

Rated5out of5byfencerowgardenfromOutstanding coat - warm, attractiveWorks great! A lot can be learned by looking at the zipper of a coat - how well it works and how easy it is to get the zipper started. No complaints here. Hood is not insulated but offers good wind protection. I like the pockets with entry for hands along with a flap for storing small items. Snugness around the coat bottom reduces cold air flow. My only suggestion: snaps on the hood could be bigger and snap more durably with the body of the coat. I haven't tested the coat in wet weather yet.
