Rated5out of5bybadtuxfromPerfect lightweight tent lightWay back in the dawn of LED lights I purchased one of the old Coleman 3AA folding "deck of cards" sized tent lights. That light had a swing-down diffuser that produced a nice splash of light that was perfect to read by inside the tent, or cook by in camp. Then they discontinued it in favor of pseudo-lanterns that "look like a lantern" but are much heavier and bulkier (and don't have as good a light pattern!) and nobody created a replacement. Until now.
Hang this guy from the loop at the head of your tent and it makes a nice flood of light to read your guidebook by. Hang it above your cook stove outside your tent and it produces a nice usable flood of light. It's waterproof and the build appears to be quite durable, you could break it if you stomped on it with your foot but that's about it. And it's light -- exactly 1oz on my postal scale *with* carbiner and battery. And it produces as useful a flood of light as that old 3-AA battery Coleman with its prehistoric LED's did, but from a much tinier/lighter package. The single AAA battery won't last as long as those three giant AA batteries, of course, but it's easy enough to carry more batteries on a long trip.
About the only downer is that they don't mention lithium batteries as compatible with this light. I have to assume that they're not. No big deal under normal conditions but if you want to use the light in below-freezing conditions, alkaline batteries don't handle that well. Bummer.

Rated5out of5byIvotetheenvironmentfromBest little lantern ever!I bought this on a whim and it has become one of my favorite peices of gear. On a backpacking trip, I strung it to my trekking pole, and hung it from a tree where it then lit up our whole campsite for when we were puting up our tents. Then, my buddy had a poor headlamp, so I clipped it to my pack with the caribiner and it lit our path through the woods on our night hike. Furthermore, I like to run through my house with the lights off and this little guy in my hands singing "I have light". Yes, my wife thinks I am awesome, lol. Anyways, I just recently bought 2 more for my running pack because it is going to start to get dark on my nightly trail runs.
