This is bag has many uses. Personally I like taking my camera with me as much as possible and this makes it so easy. The camera is well protected and I have room to store a 13" laptop, drink bottle, professional camera, extra clothing as well as strapping other items to the bag.

This is great for a focused load on 10-15 mile hikes or bike rides on trail to 30 miles. Will fit a body & a few lenses, but not any pro long lenses. I like it on my bike or on hikes to do macro work. It has a nice fit on your back for cross country mountain biking. It would be nice if it had a pouch for a smartphone/GPS on the shoulder straps. No thin vertical strap on the shoulder straps to mount an aftermarket pouch, just horizontal ones.

I purchased this pack for hiking and traveling with my DSLR cameras. I used it for a week in New York and found it to be comfortable and easy to access. I was able to pack a DSLR camera with lens, second zoom lens, small tripod, memory cards, small laptop, batteries, snacks, water bottle, two light weight jackets (kids), and a Captain America shield (Strapped to the outside) with no problems. I use the water storage pocket, with no water, to store my iPad or small laptop. It has plenty of room for day trips on and off the trail.

Great pack! Similar to a previous review (I actually thought I was reading my thoughts) I also have a Lowepro Slingshot AW 100 and love it, but needed a pack with a water bladder for Mt. Biking, Hiking and Snowshoeing. I did a lot of research and actually ordered this bag from REI before they put it on the website. The weight distribution is fantastic with all my gear (Canon 60D, external flash, 18-200 mm & 50mm lenses and essential extra battery packs, lens pen, remote shutter and tripod (usually gorilla pod)). Having the water bladder compartment is awesome.. however I would recommend using a slim bladder. I started off with a camel bak 70oz. (older version) and it felt like it was going to burst so I bought an osprey bladder that is much thinner. Went mt. biking in NH and hit rain at the tail end... rain cover worked awesome. Overall I would highly recommend to any outdoor enthusiast/photographer.

While I loved my original camera bag (a Lowepro SlingShot 100 AW), it had become too small for my needs and I went searching for a new one. I knew that it had to have the following elements:
- backback, not sling
- easy access to camera, without removal of bag
- waterproof, or waterproof cover
- space for additional items

After a lot of research, I purchased this bag (in black, not orange) and have been even more pleased than I expected. It has exceeded my expectations.

The backback design is comfortable, and easily stores my camera (Canon 60D) with two lenses (18-135mm and 70-300mm) and an external flash. My tripod (Benro Travel Angel, which folds small) can fit in multiple places, but mostly I use the water bottle pocket on the side - it is securely held in by straps at the top, and I am never concerned about it leaning out and catching on anything. The front pocket fits an iPad nicely. The water bladder area is great, separated by a plastic barrier to avoid leaks, and easily accomodated my 100oz CamelBak bladder (I just didn't fill it all the way).

Here's what I didn't expect, and certainly not how it is advertised: it is a great travel diaper bag. As the parent of an infant, I often want my camera on me when we go places. I'm easily able to fit everything I need for the day (changing pad, diapers, wipes, a book or two, small toys, even bottles and icepacks if needed. Plus a snack for me) along with my camera gear. The camera bag (with camera) is now my carry on bag for plane travel and it has worked extremely well.

Of course I use it for how it is advertised - outdoor pursuits with camera - but it's been a very versatile addition to my travel accessories, and I have a lot more opportunity to skip the phone pics and get better photos of the world around me because it's simply too easy to bring the DSLR along.

This pack fits my needs for my 4-8 mile dayhikes in Fla. I have plenty of water with my 2l bladder (not included) in the hyd pocket. I carry a tripod on the bottom straps. In the top compartment I carry my first aid kit and personal effects that can include a light jacket rolled tightly. A small lunch and trailbars, A small emergency flashlight and fire starter plus maps and compass . Dont get me wrong you do have to plan smartly since you are giving up space for the camera equip in the bottom half.
In the camera section i carry
Nikon D5100 with 55-300 lens hood reversed
18-55 kit lense
filters
small cleaning kit
blower
extra battery and sd cards(no special holders for them)

This is for the mountain biker or adventure sport person, and for me personally who likes to be out more than an hour or two and is into the 1/2-3/4 of a day trip and bring there camera along.
