The Thule Apex Swing 4 bike hitch rack carries up to 4 bikes and is easy to load and unload with the unique arc design that provides better ground clearance and creates greater distance between bikes.
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Rated4out of5byCarol the Velospeedfromsolid and convenientAbility to swing the rack away from the back of my SUV is the best feature. And of course, not scratching my car because the rack is on a trailer hitch. I assembled the rack out of the box. It wasn't really hard but I am not mechanically inclined, it took me a long time. Ikea illustrations are better than the Thule instuctions. I didn't know REI would assemble it for $40. Probably would have been worth it. The rack has "anti-sway" cages that help hold the bikes in place. Problem is that they can hit the top of water bottle cages making it difficult, if not impossible to lock them against the seat tube (depends on the length of the tube and the cage location). I also find that the plastic snap on parts for the anti-sway feature don't seem to stay on and I anticipate that they'll probably fall off sometime. I felt very confident about driving with three very expensive road bikes on this rack. They were very secure and didn't bang around.

Rated2out of5byDerHoundfromEnded up returning it...I ended up returning this rack but I think I gave it every possible chance, including buying a hitch extension and lock which will now not be all that useful. The main problems were:
1. The plastic locking knob prevented the racks use at all on my Outback because it would hit the bumper (until I bought a hitch extension which is undesirable). ANd the locking knob rubbed hard on the underside of my E250 bumper -- its usable but not ideal and so made it harder to get really tight.
2. I had to use a crossbar support add-on for my mt bike but then that caused the front tire to hand pretty low (~9 inches) and so it would drag on our fairly steep driveway. That was the final straw.
So instead, I bought (from REI of course) a Yakima Holdup for 2 bikes which is all I probably need anyway. It has plenty of clearance, is nice and tight, and I don't have to use the hitch extension.

Rated2out of5byDerHoundfromNice rack but ....I want to like this rack but theres one BIG issue with it. The lower locking mechanism that secures and locks the rack into the hitch receiver has a black plastic knob that the key goes into and that knob prevents the rack from being used on many hitches. If your hitch is tucked under your bumper at all, its likely that you will have problems. The knob rubs on the bumper of my E250, making it a PITA to tighten up all the way and lock AND, after I just installed a hidden hitch on my 2013 Outback, I just found the rack will not go all the way in at all. Essentially the rack is useless on the Outback unless I can find some extension for it. Considering returning the rack and looking for something that doesn't have this problem. Good thing REI has a good return policy -- not as good as it WAS but still pretty good.

Rated5out of5byKNZfromNice Rack!!!My son and I compete in triathlons and this rack is perfect for our bikes. It was easy to install, however, pay very close attention to the directions if adding the conversion piece for the larger 2.5" hitch. I put it on wrong the first time and had to re-assemble. Not hard, but time consuming. 3 bikes will fit perfect but 4, depending on type and size, will take some creative aligning. Our first road trip was to the coast and there was no wobble or instability and same for recent shorter trips to competition. The locking cable feature is nice for added security if you have to leave the bike(s) racked and unattended for a period of time.

Rated4out of5byDerHoundfromNice Rack!I really like this rack. It helped that I got it a while back when it was 20% off or I probably wouldnt have bought it. My only complaint is that the lock that locks it to the hitch receiver rubs against the bumper on my E250. So as I tighten up the rack to the hitch, the round plastic lock handle begins rubbing on the bumper. My workaround has been: as the handle is tightened and begins to rub, I unlock the handle, rotate it about 180 deg. CCW, relock, tighten some, then repeat until fully tight with the actual lock exposed where I can get the key in and out. It's sort of a hassle but otherwise the hitch is great. I'm geting ready to install a hitch on my Outback, so hopefully, I wont have a similar, or worse, problem. Maybe it would be best to see how it fits on your hitch before driving away with it?

Rated5out of5byMR Road tripfromLove the swing!I purchased the swing after spending about 2 months contemplating between the swing and the hinge. I couldn't be happier with my choice. I was concerned about the weight, but after caring both to my car (long story) it really isn't that much different. The big difference is the ease of moving the hitch out of the way so I can access my back end. I just got this a week ago, and while I haven't been riding yet, I had the rack on my car from REI to my house and for a few days. While running errands it was so easy to get in and out of the car. I'm hoping to go riding this weekend. I know I made the right choice and would highly recommend this product to anyone.
