Out of the box, these sandals were uncomfortable around the achilles heel. Teva sewed in a pull-up loop in the heel strap right behind some light padding. So, at the exact point at which your achilles heel touches the sandal, there is a hard bump there to greet it. These people make footwear as their main product? Loosening the straps to the point of near flip-flops alleviates the problem and after wearing them a bit, you don't notice as much.

After wearing them, however, a new problem crops up that wasn't there when I first put the sandals on. At the toe strap, there is a floppy piece of padding that has to be adjusted each time you put the sandals on. That is mainly an annoyance, but (as another reviewer pointed out) there is also loads of stitching here that can rub against the big toe.

Other than those two flaws, an overall decent sandal. Aside from styling, these are nothing to write home about.

These sandals fit pretty well and have a supportive arch like most tevas. However, there is a design problem with the toe strap. There is a gap in the neoprene above the big toe which causes chafing as shown in the picture. I think this is a design problem because another reviewer mentioned the same hotspot.

The teva terra-fi lite and the teva terra-fi 3 have a better toe strap which does not cause chafing in that area. Unfortunately, I got chafing with the terra-fi lite near the ankle. I hope someday teva will combine the heel strap of the tanza with the toe strap of the terra-fi. Until then, you can use these with a piece of tape above your big toe or you can use the terra-fi's with a piece of tape on your ankle.

These fit great! I have wider feet and have had no problem with the size. They are also very breathable, with good ventilation underneath, where it counts during the summer. The only issue is hotspots caused by the construction of the neoprene, including wads of stitching, particularly next to the big toe.

I've had similar pairs of leather Tevas for years - the older Universal and this Tanza are stylish and much more comfortable than the non-leather versions, which can chafe a bit and are perhaps too utilitarian in appearance. I wear them constantly when weather permits. All my previous pairs have been brown leather, which is what the REI picture shows, but these are actually gray (I checked the Teva web site and they do call this gray color "walnut"). I was disappointed that these weren't actually what I'd thought "walnut" should be - which is the only reason for only 4 stars - but this may be a message from providence to change my style.

I loved the fit and comfort so much, I bought 2 of these. Unlike the hipsters and such, I like wearing socks with my sandles. Ever since buying these sandles, I've stopped wearing shoes around town and work. I used to get foot pains around my soles and toes when wearing anything else. Now, I'm pain free!
