    Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Padis rated4.84out of5by25.
Rated4out of5byfromSize is the Only IssueI have now used this pad in sub-freezing temperatures (-2C to -5C), as well as multiple nights in a row indoors while crashing on a floor during SXSW. Previously, I used an REI-brand 2.5" rectangular pad that was the 25x72 @ 3 lbs 14 oz. with an R-value of 5.8 In the cold temperatures, with a 20EN bag, I was kept comfortably warm (not merely won't-die warm) the entire night, and I am more sensitive to and less tolerant of cold than most. The only time I got chilled is when I inadvertently moved against a frost-covered portion of the tent wall. During a multi-night usage indoors, I did not deflate the pad between uses. It was low enough to be folded in half and stored out of the way. Over the course of 3 nights, no additional inflation was needed. In fact, on night 2, I released more air to provide a softer feel. At this inflation level, there is noise when you move in any way that shifts your weight. Turning from back to side, for instance. Simply moving an arm or a leg creates little to no noise at all. I would subjectively say the noise might keep someone from falling asleep (were it constant) but it would not wake the average person who's already asleep. The only downside to this pad is the sizing. I am only 5' 7", but as a back sleeper, my elbows rest next to my body, sometimes splayed slightly. I have never found comfort in a pad of 20" width, so I opted for the large size, which is 25" wide and 77" long. The regular is 20x72, and is 5 oz. lighter. For me, this is negligible. However, I wouldn't mind a 25x72 version, or even a 27x72. In the end, I have no function-oriented complaints, and I am thrilled with the performance of this pad for both comfort and warmth. It is as comfortable as the previous pad, just as warm or warmer (despite an R-value of 5.7), and much, much smaller and lighter. As for the inflation method with the stuff sack and coupler: it is tedious, but functional. I recommend a decent 2-3 mm contractor bag. Regular trash bags do not grip the nozzle properly. Otherwise, the stuff sack is perfect (nozzle is sold separately) it just takes a bit longer. A battery powered inflation device would also be welcome. I doubted their ability to fill the pad sufficiently, but I find that I never inflate it much past 60-70% capacity.

Rated5out of5byfromBest sleeping pad yetI've been using and abusing this sleep pad all over the Northwest since last winter, and so I finally had to write a review about it. Others have chronicled the NeoAir XTherm's many virtues very well, but I will summarize my favorites: - Best warmth-to-weight ratio I've found so far. (Mine weighs 14 oz on the scale at home) - I can carry a lighter sleeping bag, thanks to the warmth, and I'm a pretty cold sleeper. - Durability has been great so far. It has seen dozens of nights of rocky, barely-suitable campsites and bivys...not to mention lots of doggie claws and tired hikers just plopping down on it. No issues. - It is a lot less crinkly than the Neo-Air XLite. - I can sleep on my side much more comfortably than with any other backpacking sleep pad I've ever tried. - Yes, it really does pack down to the size of a Nalgene bottle. No fuss to get it back in the stuff sack either, if you choose to use it. The only downside is inflating it (sometimes tough after a long difficult day in the mountains). Overall it is worth the price though, if both comfort and light weight are on your list of important features.

Rated5out of5byfromRotisserie padWas surprised to see that there is absolutely no padding in this pad. The layers of air cells collapse completely allowing the itty bitty size. It has a slightly waxy consistency on the side you sleep on. This will be largely ignored in a sleeping bag, but if you use a quilt, as I do, you might want to feel it before you buy. I used the bag to inflate the pad and found it easier than blowing up. It takes me approximately 6 'fills' or 2 minutes to inflate. It is oddly warm, I felt as though I was in a rotisserie oven, a comfortable warmth is felt almost immediately. I played around with softness/firmness and found that I preferred the firm/full mattress. It is a bit crinkly the more deflated it is, and with overnight cooling, I sometimes woke with a hip making ground contact, I'm too lazy to reinflate at night. I thought it was thoughtful that the bag could store the sleeping pad traditionally rolled up, or in the 'folded letter' style that allows it to be water bottle sized. I am very satisfied with this product and it will get lots more use.

Rated5out of5byfromGet ItThis pad was great! I found it to be comfortable being that I am a side sleeper. It was warm, the first time I used it the temperature was in the mid 20's. This pad does make some noise but nothing that bothered me or interfered with my sleep. I did not find blowing the pad up was not as difficult as some people have commented.

Rated5out of5byfromBest Bang for Your Buck Sleeping PadI went to Havasupai and slept on a thin mat on my side. I am a side sleeper and when I woke up had very sore hips from the hard ground. Then the next night was worse since I was sleeping on those same bruised hips. I vowed to find me a sleeping pad that was made for side sleepers. I like to get the most bang for my buck and after reviewing many sleeping pads on, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Pad by Therm-a-Rest seemed like a no-brainer. I wanted a pad that would prevent my hips (or any other body part) from touching a hard surface, fit easily in the inside of my pack, wieghed almost nothing, and kept me warm. This sleeping pad delivers all of this and more! I love it and would try to sell this to anyone that would give me the time of day. I went to the Ansel Adams Wilderness of the Sequioa National Park in California in October. The lows were 28 degrees and we even got snowed on. My back side was warm the entire night. I was quite impressed with the R-Value layered insulation technology. I was able to blow it up very quickly and enjoyed how I could adjust the firmness while laying in my sleeping bag by simply reaching up to let a little air out. This sleeping pad works perfect for all types of sleepers from firm to chushy. You can pay more for other sleeping pads, but when it comes down to maximizing comfort while minimizing wieght and size, then you will not find a better product. Other reviewers complained about the noise while they were moving. I found this not to be true. You will notice that it is very crinkly sounding when unrolling it and blowing it up, but once inflated the noise factor reduces tremendously and is a non-issue for you and anyone else in the tent. The only thing that gave me concern was potential for punctures. You can't have a super lightweight sleeping pad and still have thick material. I wouldn't want to test the durability with a sharp object so I am very careful with this proud investment of mine. I give this product an official award of excellence!

Rated5out of5byfromThe right mattressI have used three different mattresses this year, and I have finally found the "one" mattress that will work for all of my needs. It weighs a few ounces more than the NeoAir Xlite, but the warmth is well worth it. With winter camping I may still use a Therm-a-rest Z mattress under it, but will test it without first. I've used this mattress recently in the Sawtooths of Idaho when the temps dropped below freezing and was warm the whole night. I only wish that they would make a 25inch wide in the regular length.
