Rated5out of5byfromBest ever bootsTwo years ago (at age 68) I was about ready to give up backpacking and climbing because of what I thought was neuropathy in my feet, which required me to wrap some of my toes with moleskin any time I went hiking. Even on easy trails it was very painful after just a short distance. I tried several different boots and insoles. Then, at my son's suggestion, I switched to Salomon XA Pro 3d Mid GTX Ultra boots (the best boots ever), Superfeet Orange Premium insoles, and SmartWool socks. End of problem. First off, we climbed Granite Peak in Montana in a 26-hour marathon hike, and I had zero pain the whole way. Didn't even have to think about my feet. Three more summits since then, and the boots have proven durable, water resistant when rock-hopping across streams, and very comfortable always. I, for one, really like the shoestring system.

Rated3out of5byfromGreat boot...but...The boots feel great. They are very light and provides a nice feel around your ankle. No break-in period necessary, but it's smart to wear them in and around for a few days before taking them on a hike. I, personally, don't like the lacing system. I'm very picky about how my boots lace up and where they hold. The old 3D GTX boots were nearly perfect. Also the insoles are delaminating and I've only had the boots for 2 months. I guess I'll have to buy some new insoles, but I never had that issue with my old 3D's.

Rated5out of5byfromSalomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX HikingPurchased this shoe while hiking the AT. Lite-weight, dried quickly, and fit comfortably right out of the box. Got one size larger than normal due to feet swelling from all the walking. Love the shoe so much I just got a pair for everyday use. Only drawback is they wear out around 500 miles.

Rated3out of5byfromGreat shoe, non durable soleI have several pairs of soloman shoes, and love the wieght and fit. These shoes fit great out of the box, and never had hot spots or blisters while backpacking. My only serious complaint is the fact that after 1 year of hiking quite a bit, the soles are starting to crack and crumble. I actually thought about just buying a pair annually, but instead am looking at the new Asolo Reston or Zanberlan crosser. They look as if they have the same weight with a Vibram sole.

Rated4out of5byfromGood news/Bad newsThe Good- Great, lightweight, waterproof, comfortable, fairly rugged boot that held up for 2 seasons under a variety of conditions, from the Wind Rivers to the Grand Canyon. The Bad- At the start of the third season, noticed that the sole was getting quite chewed up and worst of all, that the boots were no longer waterproof. With all that said, considering getting another pair as they seem to be the best available in the narrow catagory of lightweight, fairly rugged, comfortable, waterproof, 2 season hiking boots.

Rated5out of5byfromworth the the costUse these boots for just about everything I do that requires being anywhere that isn't paved. Love the lace style and the way they perform under pressure.

Rated5out of5byfromLoved it so muchThis product was so good, that I purchased the trail running shoes XTWings 3 from Salomon to try as a golf shoe. Tomorrow, 1 Feb 13 will be my first time to try them on the course. The NO TIE shoelace design is so good that I wonder why more companies don't have it (patents probably the reason)

Rated4out of5byfromGreat shoe but noisyI wear these shoes all of the time. They are very comfortable. The only issue I have had is that they squeek even when on carpet. I took back first pair due to the noise and second pair just as noisy. I think it is in the tread design. Soft rubber and direction? Otherwise these are one of the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. Love the lacing system and waterproof. I stood in water up to my ankle and did not get wet at all.
