Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot I purchased this boot as a replacement to a old loyal boot that had been through a lot with me. Sadly the sole started coming unglued and after a couple attempts, I knew it was time to start looking for a replacement. Doing research with friends and online, I soon determined that Merrell was a great name brand at a good price. I have had them for about 3 months and have put about 50 miles on them. There was almost zero break in period, consisting of three days wearing them all weekend around the house. The next weekend, I hit the trail for about a 10 mile trip. No blisters, no sore feet and plenty of ankle support which is very important since I have a history of rolling my ankle. Sinc then, multiple hikes with the same results.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from can't handle rocky trails These boots lasted me only a year before one toe cap started coming unglued and chunks of the sole began tearing off. I used them frequently hiking on rugged trails and cross-country terrain in the Cascades. Even with stiffer custom insoles these were not suitable for hiking on rocky trails and talus. There isn't enough support and they aren't made to take that kind of abuse. I liked the light weight and comfort but I can't afford to replace them every year. Need something more durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like 'em Wore these out of the box on a 28 mile hike. Nice, no problems, no blisters. Light, dry, would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent light hiker I used these as my only shoe on a 500 mile hike on the Camino Trail across Spain (10 - 18 miles per day). Along with the orange superfeet insert I had no pain, no blisters, no feet trouble the entire 5 weeks. As with any "waterproof" shoe, when it is lightly wet they are - when it is seriously all day raining hard wet, they are not. But I didn't expect them to be dry inside after walking for 9 hours in the rain thus the 5 star rating. I plan on walking the Camino again in the near future and these will be my shoe again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great feel and flexibility I was looking for a boot that was lightweight and flexible yet waterproof and durable. This is that boot! When I hike I look to cover long distances in short time so I wanted something that felt like you can run in yet is a hiking boot. The only con about this is your feet will tire more quickly because of the flexibility.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from no durability, low quality Merrel quality seems to have gone way downhill. Ive bought two pairs of merrel shoes and both have started to fundamentally fall apart in less than a year. these came with the stiching already coming unraveled. not a big deal a little super glue. but not after about a year of casual use the sides have opened the upper is separating from the lower. these provide very little support. stay away if you need anythign approching a serious boot thats going to last more than a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended IF you get the size right! These can cramp your toes. I wear size 11 and had to go up to a 12 as 11.5 was to confining. You may need to get thick socks to fit properly. The REI help also recommended carefully checking for heel and toe fit. My wife has a pair and had no problems. They are comfortable and wear well for casual hiking. I do not backpack and you would want to look at a more expensive boots for backpacking. These are vented and work well in warm weather. We use them on 3-5 mile day hikes with little problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satisfied I walk 2-4 miles a day exercising a large dog (and myself) and generally take longer hikes on weekends. Walks are usually on trails in the woods or on walking/biking trails in the city, and longer hikes on weekends are usually on groomed or sometimes unimproved trails outside the city. I have not used them in enough conditions to do a comprehensive review, but I am generally very happy with them. They are lightweight, very comfortable (I have very wide feet, and got the "wide" size), and I have no complaints. I would give them a "5" for what I've experienced so far, but I have not had a chance to test how they handle water, their use in summer temperatures, or distances much over 3 miles. However, they have done nothing to indicate that they will not continue to give great performance.
