Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
Well thought out product. Lightweight enough, fully adjustable and stable. I guess for a longer hike the child should be a little older but our 4 1/2 month old girl loves to be in it on real short walks and around the house. Ultra padded and of course the Osprey guarantee is the best. (Not that this product will probably ever wear out like some that would most assuredly get more use). Overall very happy with the purchase. Taking it on vacation this summer.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
My daughter just turned 1 and we bought this in preparation for a camping trip to Zion National Park. It's a great, great baby carrier. The sun shade is awesome, the unit is sturdy and with an additional daypack can carry a lot. I even put my hydration bladder inside.
There's almost nothing I don't like about this product.
A couple notes:
1. The cell phone pocket on the front isn't going to hold a large smart phone. Keep that in mind. A Nexus 4 doesn't fit and something like an HTC One won't either.
2. The side belt pockets aren't terribly convenient to get to. They're okay, but not great.
3. I strongly suggest getting this model over the Premium. The only differences are that the Premium comes with a build on day pack and a changing pad. You're better off getting something like an Osprey DayLite pack which will connect to this carrier and will be useful when not using the child carrier.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
We purchased this so when we go to yosemite we can take the little one along. We wanted her to get used to it so we first started going on walks and instead of the stroller we would use this. Its a good construction and is easy to get the kid in and out of. the back pockets work well. We also use it when we go to Disneyland it sounds weird but its way better than a stroller. it makes walking around nicer. I would recommend this to everybody.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
I researched every baby carrier out there :) I actually never came across the Osprey until we went to REI to try on the Deuters. We are so happy we found Osprey. The middle of the line bag (Poco plus) gives you just as many features as all of the other brands top of the line carriers (I.e. sunshade, padding, storage). There is a great storage space for the sunshade and it covers the baby so well! There is a big compartment for storage and a few little pockets. It seemed like the only difference between the poco plus an the premium was a detachable day pack...which we didn't not need for $60 extra. I think you can even attach your own day pack to the poco plus. My husband fell while snowshoeing and the baby was snug as a bug. I'm not sure i would recommend for babies much younger than 4 months, but it worked beautifully for our 8 month old. No regrets! I can't wait to use it a million more times!

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
We use this carrier often on long walks, hikes and even bouldering. We worried that our 8 month old, chunky son would find the narrow seat uncomfortable, but he preferred it over the Deuters. It is lightweight and easy to use once you figure it out. The sunshade on the poco plus is a great feature, we love how easily it slides into place and then tucks back in. The bottom compartment is a great size and in combination with the other pockets holds everything we could need for a day hike. It took some getting used to, but our son loves riding in it now, especially since he sits so high up on my back. The only problem is that my wife finds it slightly uncomfortable because the straps are stiff.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
Bought this for my granddaughter when she was about 3 1/2 months old but had good head control. Wrap style carriers and other soft carriers just were no longer comfortable for her or the person carrying her. It is VERY adjustable for the baby and for the parent. Lydia usually falls asleep in it!

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
Loved this backpack and my daughter does as well. I have an injured back and carrying the baby on all day events can be very challenging. This pack distributes the babies weight evenly across my body like a hiking pack. Plus there are lots of pockets and a storage pouch big enough to fit all the items in her diaper bag.
Osprey = Quality, i have learned, and this purchase was a huge success!

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
I chose the Poco child carrier because I already have an Osprey pack that I used for hiking and camping which I am very pleased with. I wanted to buy a child carrier from a company that had experience with pack construction with leaves only a few companies which Osprey is one of. I have found every feature to be well thought and perfectly executed. The fit is just as comfortable as their hiking packs and very adjustable (I am 6'4" 230lbs and I have been able to get it to fit just right). The space underneath is enough for a day's worth of supplies. I also got the rain cover and it fits great and packs down small.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
We had an old kid carrier that I have been getting by with for about a year. It is very minimalist and light, and while it worked pretty well, it was not that comfortable for longer hikes, nor did it have the capacity for carrying stuff that I needed to bring along. So when the REI dividend showed up, I grabbed the chance to upgrade.
This kid carrier is great. We use it every weekend for day-hikes. It's super comfy and really easy to adjust, which is great for when I switch off carrying with the wife. I especially like the sunshade, an essential item for southwest deserts. But most of all, my kids like it. My son who I am trying to get on his own two feet more, actually comes up with whatever excuse he can to get back in it. I'll admit, I'm pushing the load rating on this pack a bit when I get him back in it, but it still carries well (but I'm wiped after a few miles).
Overall just a super well designed pack. The only negative is that it is fairly bulky (when stowing in the car with a bunch of other gear) and it is fairly heavy owing to all the features loaded onto it. The price was also pretty steep, but I for one will state that it is well worth it. If you hike with the kids with any regularity, having a good pack is paramount. Get one like this.

Comments about Osprey Poco Plus Child Carrier:
There are a lot of positives about thsi pack that others have touched on. I'm going to focus on the downsides I found.
I owned this carrier less than 24 hours, mostly due to one fatal flaw. The curved frame wraps around your back, and is very snug. I found that the feet nubs were digging into my upper rear end as I walked. The pack was properly adjusted, and I only had a 15lb kid in the pack during my around-the-block test. I can still feel the light bruises hours after the 1/2 mile walk. Unfortunately there is no adjustment for the belt distance from frame bottom to belt bottom.
Overall the carrier is well built, with some very good ideas. That said, there are some design choices that make it difficult to use.
1- On the plus model, the upper pack is spacious, but only one narrow side zipper is provided to access this storage, making it difficult to fill or dig around in.
2- To use the lower storage, you MUST have the kickstand deployed. It makes the pack stick out insanely far behind you near the bottom, which is very odd to get used to.
3- The sunshade is not sleeved into the lower compartment. This means that if you wish to un-deploy the shade, and your lower compartment is filled with stuff, you may have to monkey around in it to get the shade down all the way.
4- The zippers on the waist pouches are small and difficult to pull. The pouches end up very far back on your hips, and can be difficult to reach.
5- The pack has LOTS of pockets for storage, but most are open and unsecured. A few is useful, but I have trouble justifying why so much is left to the open.
Of the carriers at REI, this is certainly one of the better ones despite it's short comings. That said, it's worth a very close look before you buy it to determine if you can handle the issues that come with it.
