Like one other reviewer, my only suggestion would be to make the depth a LITTLE bit larger, like 7 inches.
Otherwise the bag is perfect:
An easily accessible, small front zippered pocket for a pen & lipgloss. Two elastic side pockets for a water bottle, keys, cell phone, etc. A medium front organized pocket for gum, more pens, calculator, business cards, etc. WITH another little mesh pocket in it for cough drops. Inside the purse is a padded pocket for a small tablet, or just some flat papers that you don't want floating around. (I have post-it notes & receipts in mine.) And the main compartment is nearly large enough, but not too big for: a glasses case, small notebook or book, scissors, and other random things that end up in a mom/business woman's purse.
The strap is long enough for me to comfortably wear cross-body, which I love and keeps everything easily accessible or quickly pull them up for a shoulder bag.
It's definitely not the most professional looking purse and maybe I should her one of those sometime, but for now I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one.
In fact, I'm going to order a second one (in black, I have purple) just so it doesn't always look so casual.

Bought this to use for work (as an Athletic Trainer) as a medical field bag. Great capacity for supplies, good compartments for easy access to what I need quickly, comfortable to wear across my body. Used in heavy rain and it held up fairly well (no damage to items in bag), dried out quickly. Liked it so much, I bought a second one for personal use!

I searched for a small messenger style bag for months unsuccessfully. I am very selective about my specifications for a bag and needed one that would fit most of my criteria...practical, organized, not bulky, light, sturdy and not ugly. The intent is to use the bag as a purse to tote around the usual e.g. wallet, keys, sunglasses, smartphone. Not very much, but I guess it adds up. This bag is not perfect, but it is the best I have come across. I like the color, material and style which allows for it to be used in both a casual or business environment (business casual not corporate). The strap is comfortable and is adjustable on both sides. I really like the use of zippers rather than Velcro which can be incredibly disruptive to people around you or just a problem if you are trying to use the bag discreetly. There are quite a few compartments in this bag, but I wish there were more. The outer pocket has a lot of organization aspects, but I wish that the main compartment of the bag did as well. Overall, I am satisfied with this bag and would purchase it again.

I love this bag. Like some people have said, the bag looks a little more stylish than most functional bags because of the cute zig zag design on the front. The organization of the front pocket is a life saver for someone like me, who needs a ton of little things within easy reach: a chapstick, gum, breath mints, a small notebook, pens,a small swiss army knife, tissue, and my phone and keys. Then there is the main compartment with its tablet pocket. I don't have a tablet, but the pocket works wonderfully for my slim wallet and planner. I can fit 2 5" x 7" pouches filled with stuff, my sunglass case, and a few other knick knacks in the main compartment to capacity. A BIG reason I bought and love this bag is the two side pockets that can fit my 24 oz Contigo water bottle and an umbrella. After many years of trying dozens of seemingly cute and functional bags, I realized that a bag is meaningless if it doesn't hold a drink - so a big thumbs up to REI for the side pockets! The bag also has enough structure so that it can stand by itself and won't topple over even if it's pretty empty. The shoulder pad is awesome too - it really takes the weight off my shoulders. It's even better than Lesportsac bags in that aspect, and LSS is known to have better shoulder straps than most brands; the REI bag feels lighter. This is a big deal for me, as I have some back problems.
The only con for me is the total capacity of the bag. If the bag had a depth of about 7" instead of 5", it would be perfect. I have to carry a ton of stuff for both work and personal use, and I find that the overall size falls short a teensy bit. Other than that, the bag is perfect. But I doubt most women carry as much junk as I do, so the size is perfect if you dont have to take your whole life with you every day. 9.5/10!

My wife says this is the perfect bag for her! She has just enough space for her wallet and personal items, and the main compartment is where she stashes some of those baby items you need on a quick trip and don't want to bring the full-blown diaper bag. She was really excited about the drink pockets on both sides of the bag - room for her water bottle & a cup for the baby!
