Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
I bought this jacket for my wife because she is hot blooded and bikes/walks to work everyday. she needed the breathable and waterproof, tried a North face, not waterproof and too hot, tried white sierra, not breathable, tried Marmot, not waterproof....thought this one was the ticket until today 2/21/13 in Bellingham, raining like crazy, she got to work ant was soaked through on hood and the shoulders...... Jacket is going back.

I love the shell, it looks great, the fabric is state of the art but it could use to be a bit longer, I don't like the velcro on the sleeves.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
I wear this jacket almost everyday. It is so comfortable. The pockets are easy open, easy close, I love the covered zippers. The color is so close to my business color that I can wear it at events. Just washed it for the first time and it came out great. A little tumble in the dryer and I was ready for another day.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
This jacket all around great protection from wind and water. This is NOT insulated and won't be enough protection for super cold conditions. however, if u wear a fleece/vest/thermal underneath this jacket does just fine. I use it for cycling in the rain, backpacking etc. It's super light weight and you can pack it down pretty small. The windproof and waterproof protection is great and I've biked in downpours without a problem. Also, breathability is great...it's noticeably much better than other jackets with the sweat condensation in the sleeves and lower back areas, especially when I'm cycling or wearing a backpack.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
I had received an earlier model of this e-vent jacket last season or the season before, I can't remember which, as a gift. It may have been marketed under a different name, but I think it was the same, since it looks just like this season's jacket. I lived in the midwest when I had the first jacket and was dealing with cold weather and a lot of snow. With layering, it was perfect for both walking around town for a few hours in the cold and for skiing trips out west while it was snowing heavily. It breathed really well, was very lightweight and packable, and the cut was great. I'm only about 5 feet tall and the jacket wasn't too long, the sleeves were a good length, and it wasn't bunching anywhere. Unfortunately, I had to return the jacket recently when I moved to Washington state and found myself doing a lot of activities in the rain. The pockets soaked through and I was left with a wet phone. I was looking forward to exchanging it for the Kimtah in almost the same color, but found that the same exact size was about a size and a half larger, which was baffling to me. I thought maybe it was just a fluke and tried on the same size in different colors, but they were all the same. Not to sound rude, but are Americans really getting so large that sizes are getting that much bigger? I know I'm the height of a kid, but I always wear women's size smalls and I haven't shrunk. On a positive note, the jacket itself is GREAT and I found that they began reinforcing the zippers and waterproofing the pockets. I love the e-vent fabric and would definitely buy this jacket again if the size fit--in fact, I'd return my current jacket (which I really like and is not REI brand) in a second for it. One more thing why I really like the REI jacket that you don't really think about unless you've had the comparison--the pockets are higher up so if you're wearing a fanny pack or backpack with a waist support belt (or whatever it is called), you don't have to take it off or undo it. I seriously wish the jacket I have now had that feature.

On a 5 hr hike w/ intermittent rain, jacket soaked through entirely. Took HOURS to dry out - a problem when camping. Also within days of purchasing
one of the velcro tabs unstitched.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
I'm a field biologist, so when I wear raingear, I put it through its paces. So far, I've been pretty impressed with this jacket (though the pants are TERRIBLE). It's actually waterproof and windproof, and the hood is really nice and adjustable so I can keep the rain AND the hood out of my eyes. The zipper is nice too; it pulls up just high enough to warm my face, but with enough distance that I'm not choking on the top of it, and the fabric doesn't collect moisture like my gortex jacket did (or the lingering smell of tuna).
What I don't like about this jacket is really pretty minimal, and stuff that could easily be improved in the next design. The pockets are ventilated fabrick on the inside, which means that if I want to put something in there, I'd better not try to get it out during a rainstorm or my entire side will be flooded. While this does mean that I can use them as side zips, I'd rather have pit zips to release heat and functioning pockets. There is one waterproof pocket in the arm, but it's very small.
The other thing is that I'm worried about its longterm durability. I've owned it for almost two months and worn it every day and while it hasn't torn, the bottoms of the sleeves are starting to look a little frayed. No leaks yet, though.
That's it. No really, that's all. As far as being waterproof and windproof, it's really the best that I've found yet, and I like the fabric better than gortex though it doesn't seem to hold up quite as well.

I bought this jacket to wear on a fishing trip to Alaska. I needed something waterproof, windproof and great for layering. It is all of these things, and pretty stylish to boot! We spent four 14 hour days on the water in very windy/rainy/hailing/sunny weather. Typical Alaska May weather! I wore Smartwool's thickest base layer on top and the North Face denali fleece. I didn't need anything else under this jacket! The zippers kept my camera dry in my pocket and it was breathable too. The amazing bonus was when I got home and put off washing it- because everyone knows washing waterproof fabric is never a positive outcome- I noticed the care label said wash often! The material's breathability and waterproof qualitites benefit from washing!!!

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Women's:
Just tried this jacket in some varied weather on a hike in New England and I'm really impressed. Compared to other rain jackets it is super-breathable. (Another reviewer said it wasn't breathable enough, but I disagree. True, it's not like wearing a gauzy linen shirt, but for a rain jacket it's awesome!). I wore it on a hike that was rainy with high winds at the summit. The jacket breathed well while climbing (when I felt very warm!), and stopped the winds at the summit. And of course, it kept me perfectly dry in the wet conditions. Also, the fit is really feminine and flattering. It really hurt to pay so much for a rain jacket, but I'm glad I did. This one's great!

Worth every penny. Totally breathable! Flattering cut. Got tons of compliments. Owned it for 1 1/2 years now. My staple jacket year round. Just add a fleece under and it's fine for most cold days in Denver. I can run and work out in this and do not get sweaty. It is fine in warm weather. Bought it for a backpacking trip in England. Walked in the rain for 8 hours first day and it kept me dry. Yes, I would also add armpit zippers. Washes well. I can't wait to buy another color.
