Comments about Garmont 9.81 Race Trail-Running Shoes - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
These are great running shoes for on the trail or on pavement. Traction is good. I love the pull up laces. They do not loosen and tuck away nicely under a little pouch in the tongue. I had not heard of this brand before, so was pleasantly surprised how comfortable they are and convenient to wear. They are extremely comfortable from the first run. They are also lightweight. I love them so much, I bought a second pair as a back up. You do not need to go up half size like some other running shoes. They fit true to size.

Comments about Garmont 9.81 Race Trail-Running Shoes - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
I have had a hard time finding good trail shoes and these are the most comfortable I have tried. It took two runs and they were broken in very well and they are extremely comfortabale and handle tough running and are fine for pavement.

Comments about Garmont 9.81 Race Trail-Running Shoes - Women's - 2010 Closeout:
I love these shoes so much I ordered a second pair to keep on tap when my current pair wear out. I'd never had the one-pull lace style before -- stopping multiple times on the trail to tighten or retie my shoes is now a thing of the past. The laces seemed thin and like they wouldn't hold up to multiple pulls at first, but they are tough and pull through eyelets more easily than thicker ones would.
I hate the color choices on a lot of women's athletic shoes these days (no pink or powder blue for me thank you) so I love that these are completely neutral and that the lowers are black (the practical choice for trail use).
I use them for general wear, day hiking on all but the most rugged terrain, and my crossfit workouts on sloppy days (though some could say they're just a tiny bit heavy for crossfit). The tread might not be aggressive enough for true trail runners, but it suits my purposes just fine. They aren't waterproof, but work well for light rain and slightly sloppy trails.
Size/width is just right; I wear a size 5 (B width) and find a lot of trail shoes run big or too wide. Not the case here: they fit great, plenty of room in the toe box without feeling like you're swimming in them. Good heel grip and average-to-good arch support. Required NO breaking in -- they were perfect right out of the box.
I usually go through shoes in about 9 months. I've been wearing these A LOT for the past year (including several 6-10 mile hikes with some rough patches and serious elevation gain) and haven't had to break out my stashed backup pair yet. Just brought them home from a trip to WA and OR where campsites this time of year are very dusty, but trails in the rain forest are still muddy; scrubbed them up with a small brush and a little dish soap and other than tread wear, they look brand new (really!). I've never had a pair of shoes that clean up so well.
Next time I'm looking for shoes I'm going to look at Garmonts first. Though the way these are lasting, that probably won't be for a long time.
