Comments about Sawyer Water Treatment Filter Bottle:
Got this to use on questionable water during a trip to South America. I thought it would be more convenient to filter as I drink than to separately filter into a bottle and then drink. Unfortunately this thing really makes you work for every sip- and that's starting with clean water with no particlulates. You have to both suck and squeeze, then work the vacuum out of the bottle and repeat for each sip. Even if you loosen the cap as the other reviewer suggested you still have to suck hard. Personally I'd rather filter water into a bottle and then drink it comfortably than suck on this thing until my tonsils are sore. I really could not be less impressed with this product. I'm stuck with it for now but this will be going back to REI when I get home.

Comments about Sawyer Water Treatment Filter Bottle:
Water water everywhere and nary a drop to drink. After a 1 liter water bottle ran out of water in the middle of a mountain river while fly fishing when I was about 1.5 miles from the car on a hot day I started carrying a 100 oz water bladder. I never ran out of water again but I found I was carrying 3 to 4 lbs of water on my back that wasn't getting used. Drying a 100 oz bladder before storage isn't easy either. A filter bottle seemed to be the best option. I tried a Katadyn MyBottle Purifyer but getting tap water out of it after pre-conditioning and priming per instructions was waaaay too hard. It also gave tap water an iodine taste. An email response from Katadyn said that a Filter was a better option for use in the (NW) USA. But reviews of the Katadyn Filter bottle also complain of low flow. I could see from the Sawyer video that water flowed easily from the Sawyer bottle so I returned the Katadyn. The Sawyer does not require pre-conditioning and priming so it is much simpler to use than the Katadyn. The Sawyer is easier to clean than the Katadyn or a bladder. Since the filter can easily be back-flushed I'll never have to replace the filter. Finally when assembling the Sawyer bottle it's easy to see how I can create a gravity fed system for camp use by detaching the Sawyer filter from the bottle cap and use simple in-line adapters to connect larger diameter hoses between the filter and two bladders. How can it get better than that?

Comments about Sawyer Water Treatment Filter Bottle:
I used with a couple of old water bladders to have the same function of that of the platypus gravity fed filter worked great! Got comments about it while out doing the wonderland trail and even beat those using pump filters. Made a great camp filter and even used it to fill my canteen. Plus i dont have to worry bout replacing filters!

At first when I drank from this the flow was not so good. I tried a few ways to use it and finally figured out the the reason for the bad flow was the vacuum in the bottle. Now when I drink I loosen the cap a bit and the flow is great.
