UCO Micro Candle Lantern is rated 3.3333 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from tiny beacon This thing is pretty cool. I bought it on a whim when I was headed for a cold winter stay in Big Bend, something to make a nice light, give me something to stare at, and provide a modicum of warmth. It does all of that. To the person saying that this creates tealight infernos-- I have never seen it. In fact, try keeping a lit tea light in any amount of wind in the open-- good luck. This lantern lets you. It provides a small amount of long lasting protected light that can get you around camp and get you back to camp. Wax will spill out of this if you aren't careful, so you have to be careful if you hang it in your tent. Another downside is that wax melts, so you have to be careful in warm weather so you don't end up with wax inside your pack. Keeping it in your car in the summer, etc... potential disasters. I've used citronella tealights for extra bug protection around camp. ymmv. If you are in a place that doesn't allow ground fires, this little thing is great. We all know the comfort and ambiance a candle can bring, especially in a dark night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satisfactory I always thought these things were something of a joke, but on my most recent trip, I thought I'd give one a shot. I figured it would make dinner after nightfall more fun, since eating by headlamp sucks, but it somehow managed to prove more useful than that. It surprised me how much light it produces, and how low its weight is overall. It packs up nice and compact, and the auxiliary storage is a fantastic feature. With it, I was able to pack up my site at 0400 without using my headlamp at all, and could read comfortably at night. It has a little reflector dish on the top that amplifies light downward; so for optimal illumination, hang it from a tree branch, awning, or tent. My only gripe is the fact that the topmost section doesn't lock in any way, and if you're a little rough with it, it'll slide right back down into the base. Really just an annoyance, but no dealbreaker in any way.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hazard I burn tea light candles all the time. This is the only device where I have seen the tea light wick bend over until both ends touch the liquified parafin, and the resulting wick arc allows the flame to become huge. It literally engulfs this little lantern in flames. Nobody should ever buy this -- there is something about the design of tea light candles that makes them unsafe to burn in a contained lantern. Tea lights should be burned in open holders. If you want a candle lantern, get the standard spring loaded one that uses UCO candles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Neat idea, yet cheaply made I have a couple candle lanterns and I thought this would be a great idea for a car emergency or perhaps just to add a little light around the campfire. And it does just that, a little light. Construction is light weight metal that has a hard time supporting the top of the lantern. There are several sharp edges that poke through the metal that connects the pieces together. If you are looking at getting a candle lantern, you can not go wrong with the original UCO model or the UCO lantern that hold three candles. This model is just too small or micro for it's own good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for inside the tent This is actually the second Micro Candle Lantern I've bought. The first was for myself; this one was a gift for a friend who liked mine. It provides just enough light to get ready for bed, warms up the interior of the tent enough to be comfortable before climbing into my sleeping bag, and helps to reduce condensation on damp nights. Tealights are easy enough to transport, and can also be used as firestarters in an emergency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Options to the tea light candle. Just got mine but was concerned about the messy drip factor. Thought I would try some options to the tea lights that came with the lantern. Found the alternatives were even better! Try tea lights in clear plastic bases for a brighter burn (but still is a drip hazard). Use a tea light oil burner (you can purchase clear ones online or at GFS) for no drip, and brighter, burn (keep the lid for transporting in your pack). Or you can totally wuss out of burning anything and use one of those battery powered tea lights for a little flicker flame effect (much safer for the kids), but with no light or heat value. You can flip the candle holder upside down, or remove it entirely, to adjust the height for whatever you are using. I am more excited than ever to take it backpacking now!! in clear plastic for a
