Synthetic leather uppers with nylon mesh panels are flexible, lightweight and durable for breathable, comfortable use on the trail

Shoes appeared to be of great quality, but I found them to be very uncomfortable to walk in. I could feel the tread pattern on the bottom of my feet as I walked. I even tried inserts but that didn't help to my liking so I returned them. I'm going to stick with Salomon's from now on. PS: REI really stands behind their products!

I work as a camp counselor and a commercial fisherman. Both of these jobs take me to a multitude of different terrains. I need a shoe that will handle competitive running on grass all the way to hiking slick rock. This shoe has been able to give me the comfort, support and traction that I could ask for. It is hands down the best shoe of its category that I have ever owned (I have been wearing this type of shoe since 98). This shoe is my 4th pair I have purchased in a row.

My biggest complaint is that they don't last very long. I had one pair that only lasted me 6 months. This is while not wearing them every day. I would hope that you would get more life from a shoe that you spend around $120 for... The good news is that I'm an REI member and they are so good with returns.

Bottom line is these shoes are superior to any other I've tried. Just make sure you have no problem spending high dollar amounts on a shoe that may not last very long.

Rugged terrain requires stronger footwear. Didn't need my arch inserts, although there was room for them. Toes seemed a little loose, although it is hard to find size 14 with B width. Will wear them for a year and see how they hold up.

I use these most to play disc golf over the variety of terrain in the Charlotte area. Great traction for elevation shots and the Gor-tex makes playing in wet conditions no problem. Sure footing for tough disc retrival too.

Bought these for a recent trip to Bolivai, Salar de Uyuni, with extremely varying terrain. I exposed them to heat, cold, sulphur lagoons, volcanic ash and rock, and city streets, all within a few days and they never let me down. I slipped and stepped into ankle deep water in one of the lagoons and my foot stayed dry!!! Love these shoes and as others have said, no break in is required. They are very comfortable straight out of the box.

I bought these for some intermediate hiking and snow shoeing. Wore them out on a couple-mile snow shoe hike on day 1 and they were great. They kept my feet dry, even in wet snow, and required no break in period whatsoever. I have since used them on about 5 other snow and regular mountain hikes of about 5 miles each and have no complaints at all.

These are my main hiking shoes unless I'm carrying a lot of weight, over 30lbs. I didn't buy the Gortex GTX version because the I will use these to traverse through water and don't see how the area that are GTX serve a function in this shoe let alone any footwear that isn't a boot. Great shoe though.
