Rated5out of5bylonghornhikerfromExcellent shoesGreat shoes, had no issues with breaking in. I wore this on a 6 mile overnight round trip hike and I did not get a single blister. On the way back I had some hot spot potential blisters only because my liners and socks were a little wet and it was very cold. The shoes have bad tracking on wet surfaces. On the return hike it started snowing and there were a lot of slippery rocks and packed ice on the trail. I fell on my butt once and slipped at least 8 times. These are very dangerous on slippery surfaces. My friends too had a hard time on the icy trail, they as wore shoes that had vibram soles. I guess vibrams are the culprits here.
My previous shoes were the Vasque breeze in which I had issues with blisters even on short hikes. I also own a 5.10 camp four which are great on slippery surfaces but not good on long hikes.
Overall these shoes are superb in terms of comfort on long distance hikes in dry conditions.

Rated5out of5byJimbo2013fromBeautifully Crafted in ItalyI was looking to replace my 30+ year old Vasque backpacking/hiking boots which had served well over the years, yet were heavy and completely worn out.I wanted a lighter weight, waterproof boot with good ankle support. I found these Zamberlan 298 Tundra GT boots on sale at a great price and decided to take a chance on the fit. In a shoe I take a 10.5 D width and the 10.5 size fit very nicely with a medium wool hiking sock. Some of the other reviews I read said they fit well out of the box, I would agree 100%.
After reading many reviews on different boots I began to lean more towards the quality I knew I would get with a European or North American made boot. I knew nothing about Zamberlan previously, and was delighted to find out that they are made in the North of Italy in the beautiful Dolomite region. The company has been around since 1929, and was one of the original manufacturers to partner with Vibram. So immediately I felt I'd made a wise choice.
I have had the boots for about 2 weeks, and have taken a few hikes, and other general walks but haven't really had a chance to test the boots for things like waterproofness. What I will say is that they are very comfortable, warm, and easy to lace up snugly. Traction is excellent. The outsole rubber is pliable and grips well, though it may wear more quickly than a harder rubber outsole. Zamberlan recommends treating the uppers with a proprietary "hydrobloc" spray to improve and maintain the waterproof quality. I have not done this yet. I may try replacing the thin foam insole with one that has a higher arch support (I use cork Birkenstock insoles in everything).
I basically look forward to every opportunity to put them on and head out the door. You will too.

Rated5out of5bydanswedenfromExceeds all expectations!Always a bit unsure of buying footware without trying them on, especially one that is built with European sizing as the basis. Boot was spot on for sizing with a hiking sock. Comfortable the second it came out of the box. Excellent traction in fresh and granular snow. Took advantage of REI sale to get them at wonderful pricing. Would buy again in a second!

Rated5out of5bypdx joshfromOut of the box comfort.WOW. I had to run right over to post this. I have been trying to find a pair of boots for a few months. Saw these went on clearance and gave them a shot... unbelievable comfort. As soon as I put them on I knew I finally nailed the fit. Now I am curious if all Zamberlan boots are this comfortable.

Rated5out of5byscn21163fromThe BestCan't comment on 2012 version but...I bought mine in 2008 and they performed! No break in. I hiked 45 miles on AT in Georgia and not one hot spot! I have since put about 300 miles on these boots with no noticeable wear. They are still going strong. Still waterproof as long as the water level doesn't break the top of the boot! The soles still grip well. I now live in CO and these boots just keep doing what they do. Exactly as advertised. I will not own another brand...that is if these boots ever breakdown. Get these boots! That's all I can say.
