Rated4out of5bykiowavtfromThe best-but latest update spoiled thatThese are the best pants I have ever purchased. Worth every penny. Most comfortable ever. Double as dress pants. Casual and outdoor use also great. Stretch waist so best for the S-M-L-XL waist pants. Gain or lose an inch and the pants adjust with you. Alas, for the 2013 update they spoiled everything. Built in belt so not as likely to use in work or more dressy situations. Not as flexible on the waist, and fit is a bit different. I bought every expiring pair I could find.

And can use for hiking and more! The new update raises the price and has a belt included, making it far less useful for work. And for travel for me, as I have a belt that's a money belt I got at REI. Darn!

Rated4out of5byJP from ColoradofromJust RightI'm in the military and bought these pants for travel, hiking, and general outdoor use. Don't believe the few self-righteous whiners, they work perfectly for what they're marketed to do. If you want pants that work well in 85+ temps buy lightweight nylon... not mid-weight polyester. I've found them to be perfectly comfortable from 30-85 deg.
The semi-elastic material allows the waistband to be flexible without the tacky scrunched up look of your Dad's 70's era jogging suit or ugly pleats and it's actually got real belt loops that will accommodate a full width belt if you need to tuck in a shirt and dress them up a bit while traveling. The lack of a second hip pocket maintains a sleek professional appearance that doesn't scream "summer camp" and again, allows them to be worn places other hiking pants can't. I wore them no less than 3 times to resort restaurants on a recent trip to Hawaii and received no issues from the staff.
They have a mild athletic cut and are made from 11% spandex. So if you're overweight either A) don't buy them B) go to the gym. Either way, don't complain about them being too tight because you failed to try them on before you bought them.
The material is durable and sufficiently water-resistant. It's not like the lightweight polyester workout shirts that constantly get unsightly snags and runs. As an added benefit it's quite stain resistant.
My only complaints would be 1) they're completely sold out of size 32 and you can't find the charcoal color in any size 2) a second (left) rear pocket would be nice. But honestly, if they'd just re-stock them I would instantly buy two more pair.

Rated3out of5byEric PalaciofromComfortable but don't clean up wellI bought these pants for a 4 day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail in NY this month. I absolutely loved the comfort and the fit of the pants. They're breathable and kept me warm without making me sweat. The only problem is that I couldn't get them clean once I got home. I wore them for 4 days and they were subjected to normal soiling from a 4 day backpacking trip: mud near the ankles, some grime from dirty hands, some soiling from sitting on the ground. Nothing major: no grease or food stains, no soot stains from campfire, etc... I put them through the wash twice, used Shout, pre-brushed, etc... but they still look dirty. It's a shame because i really liked them otherwise. So I would recommend them for travel or casual wear, even maybe for light hiking, but definitely not for backpacking / camping.
