I needed a rack to keep my bike upright, instead of leaning against the wall in my apartment. This rack does just that. To install, you just pull a lever up and it's ready to go right out of the box! Easy to move around, doesn't need to be floor or wall mounted, and keeps your bike secure. Super basic, works as promised, AND it's not leaving any marks on my floors or walls! Great product, decent price, definitely recommended.

I did in-depth web research into other various floor stands and read the reviews posted by other REI members who purchased this particular model before actually buying one from the Settlers Ridge location, Pittsburgh PA (great store, excellent staff).
Purchased this product to perform mechanical repairs. In addition, this model is effective for simply storing bicycles with varying tire widths.
Remove the stand from the box (no assemble required) and pull the Swing Arm for set-up. Then insert the rear bicycle wheel into the wheel cradle and you're complete!
Although this model is not a full-scale shop repair stand, it's still very effective and economical for doing repairs as the bicycle remains stable enough within the Wheel Stabilizer of the unit.
Product materials are made from a strong grade of aluminum and, if you wish, the pivot clips (which allow multiple stands to be interconnected) can be easily removed from the leg caps with a flat-head screw driver.
This model is made in Taiwan as detailed on the packaging/box and not in the USA as detailed in the product Description section by REI.

This is a really well-engineered and well-built stand at a good price. There is just one fly in the ointment, and that is that it's a pain to fill the tire when it's in the stand. Depending on the bike layout there is about a 70% chance that the tire valve will not be in a favorable position, and unlike other bike stands you can't rotate the tire that is in the stand because the stand's roller arm is spring-loaded. So, you have to remove the bike from the stand to pump up the tire, which partly defeats the purpose. You could work around this by carefully putting the bike into the stand, calculating how much rotation of the wheel will get the air valve in just the right position, but who wants to do that after a long ride?
Bottom line -- if you normally take your bike out of the stand and wheel it somewhere else to pump up the tires before a ride, then you won't notice this gotcha, and the stand is otherwise really well put together. If you expect to fill the tire while the bike is on the stand, this is going to annoy you to some degree. Personally I'm replacing it with a static, non-spring-loaded stand because I don't like starting every day's ride annoyed :)

I did not purchase mine at REI because I needed a White one for my place, but if Black works for you, REI is the best place to get it.
Every few years a revolutionary product comes along that changes the face of the way we normally do things. This is one of them.
I have been using different stands for years, this is the best one. The stand only touches your tire--never the rim, and is so stable you can clean, lube, and adjust your bike on it like I do all the time. It's high quality and light enough to take in the car to ready or clean the bike before/after a race/ride. No need to lean your bike up against your car or other things.
I am even considering getting another one just to leave in the car. It fold flat and opens easy and looks professional.
It holds the front or rear tire just as well.
I really don't see getting any other floor stand--it will take a long time if not never to make improvements on this design. Wish I owned the patent on it.
Everyone with a bike at home, office or garage needs one to avoid falls and damage.

I keep my bike in the carpeted basement at night and was tired of leaning it against the wall. Being 6'-7" tall, my jumbo Cannondale Quick CX is ENOURMOUS as well. This stand has no problems keeping my bike stable and upright, even on thick carpet. Comes ready to use right out of the box. Just flip up the guide. Great product at a great price!

I purchased this for my road tandem. It holds it rock steady using the front wheel. Self adjusts to the wheel and tire size you are using. A little pricey, but the stability and build quality are worth it.

We have a "typical" 2 bike stand for our road bikes, but when my husband picked up a 3rd bike, we needed something that wouldn't take as much room. The reviews on this were positive, so we went for it & are glad we did. He feels very confident with how securely it holds his pricey triathlon bike & likes how little pressure it puts on his wheels (which he was concerned about with this design). We're actually getting another one for our newest bike addition. Highly recommended!
