- CrossFlo DTS suspension provides cooling airflow across your back and effectively transfers load weight to your hips
- Auto-Fit harness increases the stiffness of the frame as the load in the pack increases, helping ensure that the pack maintains its shape
- 3 points of access make it easy to load and unload your gear, food and sleeping bag
- Lid pocket features a key clip; second stash compartment on the underside of the lid secures small personal items
- Zippered front bucket pocket holds a rain jacket or other items you may need to access quickly

Love this pack, and my other larger Gregory as well. Fantastic design, super comfortable, works well for day hikes (I like to make sure I am equipped with backup gear in case the Washington weather shifts on me), rain fly is included, nice pockets and zippers for packing and unpacking and works great for overnight travel (not necessarily camping). It also looks good which I value (probably too much). I also really like the pocket on the bottom.. I can put items that I don't want touching other items, like an extra pair of shoes.

I have used this pack so far for day hikes, travel, and a weekend backpacking trip. For day hikes, unless you are carrying extra gear it is quite large. However, the straps allow you to compress the pack down so it isn't uncomfortable and doesn't look ridiculous. I used this bag as a carry on bag for a long flight and it was comfortable to wear around the airport and even fit under the airline seat well. For a weekend backpacking trip, it is the perfect size. The sleeping bag compartment is a bit small for my older synthetic bag, but it doubles as a nice place to store a jacket for easy access. Even with around 30 lbs (lots of water), the pack is comfortable and well balanced.
I was a bit hesitant to purchase this pack because it is quite large for a daypack, but I have found the capacity to be very versatile. The straps are comfortable, it is easy to fit with the many adjustments, and the airflow is great on your back. My only minor complaints are that the side mesh pockets are a bit small to hold a liter bottle when the pack is full (they fit but barely), and you have to unfasten the compression straps to open the front access zipper.
So far even though I have used it for many trips, the pack still looks brand new. It is very durable but relatively lightweight. This pack is not inexpensive, but it is a quality item that I anticipate will see years of use. I adore my other Gregory pack, a 10 year old Shasta, as much as the day I bought it. It is still going strong with only minor wear visible and I have no intention of replacing that item anytime soon.
A well designed comfortable pack that is built to last!

This is my first REAL backapck and I wanted something that fit well. Other brands of womens packs did not adjust as well. I'm petite (5'3" and 105 lbs) and this fits me perfectly when it's all cinched up. I've been doing overnight trips carrying 20-25 lbs for 12 mile RT in complete comfort even in the hot Arizona summer weather. My only complaint is that I agree with another review that the pockets in the hip belt are kind of small, however, I'm not sure that I personally would want the hipbelt any wider so they work for me. I use them for a pocket tissue and small knife in one and chapstick and sunscreen in the other.

Last year I retired from teaching and joined a trail club so I could get back to hiking. I started out using a basic "book bag" type pack with no particular support, etc. because I didn't know any better and didn't realize how out of shape a person can get in twenty years. The pack pulled down on my shoulders, made it hard to breath and hurt my back.
I went to REI to get a "real" backpack. The associate who helped me was great. I purchase the Gregory Jade 38 and love it. It is contoured for a woman and is sized for my torso. The hip belt and adjustable straps at the shoulders keep the weight off my back, and the air-flow provided by the supension keeps me comfortable. I can carry a much heavier load for longer distances than I could before with no back fatigue. This pack has really made a big difference in what I am able to do and how far I can go.

I first got the older version of this pack when I was hiking the 500 mile Camino de Santiago in Spain. It was PERFECT -- it held food, a spare change of clothes, light camp shoes and toiletries and a summer-weight sleeping bag (I didn't need to bring a tent or cooking gear). I was able to cover 10-20 miles a day, no problem. Great ventilation and load distribution.
I proceeded to use the pack in my travels (since it fits in airplanes' overhead bins, it's perfect for short trips). One of the straps actually detached from the pack at the upper seam, which was a bit odd, but REI replaced the pack.
Now I have the newer Jade 38, which has an extra set of buckles on the sides. I guess these are good for helping cinch the load, but they got a bit annoying to clip and unclip when accessing the pack through the middle zipper. It doesn't stop me from using the pack a ton, though, for weekend trips and just trips around town when I know I'll have a heavy load.

Wish I hadn't waited so long to upgrade from a school backpack to this one for hiking. I deserve it! Usually hike about 6 hours twice a month and carry lunch and gear for all types of weather. Do 14ers too!

I bought this pack to hike Mount Whitney (22 miles in one day). The pack was amazingly comfortable even carrying 3 liters of water, extra food, and clothes. Although the Gregory Jade is a bit expensive, it was worth every penny!

This is a great backpack. The frame allows air to circulate behind your back greatly reducing sweat buildup. Pack is very comfortable. More pockets would improve the pack. Red is a nice color and doesn't look dirty. Comes with a rain cover which is a real plus!
