Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
I needed a large backpack for my 17" computer and this holds the computer and much more! A lot of compartments and it is well padded to protect the computer!

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
I have the first generation of this bag and love it. After using timbuktu backpack and Patagonia's Critical Mass shoulder bag this was a breath of fresh air: the single-tone brown makes it feel professional enough to take to work meetings, but it still has all the pockets/compartments I like to keep me organized. I came to recommend this to a friend and was disappointed to see it's now a two-tone bag with a "gear loop" on the bottom of the outside. In my opinion, that all makes it look a lot less professional without adding any value.

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
I use this as my daily commuter. Carrying laptop, book, papers, cords, rain gear, and other. I ride mass transit, which is why it was necessary to get a backpack.
Don't think I could ask for anything more.

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
Had been looking for something to use as an airline carry-on that would protect my MacBook and carry enough other stuff while still being convenient and comfortable.
This turned out to be better than I was hoping for. Good firm construction that keeps it's shape (Doesn't sag into a lump.) and protects the contents well. Array of pockets (in and out) are well designed and arranged for documents and bits of kit. The the side-pocket for sliding out (and back in) one's laptop while going through security is a godsend for air travellers.
I bought mine on a solo visit to the States. After our next trip together my wife wanted one. It's a good thing the store had one left in the other color it comes in.

Was great for a long trip to New Zealand. I used it as my carry-on. The straps were comfortable and front straps helped support it when I came home and it was a little over-loaded :)

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
Used for communiting with documents, water bottle, lunch, etc. Extremely comfortable, distributes weight well and lots of space/compartments. Only 1 water bottle holder, but a very good one. Heavier than lighter/cheaper backpacks, but well built and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
I've used this bag over 2 years now as my day-to-day work bag. It distributes the weight perfectly and is very comfortable, especially in airports. I have even used it as luggage on a 2-day work trip, carrying my computer, work papers and clothing. Was tight, but it worked. And it still looks great. Except for a little wear on the front, it looks the same as when I bought it at the beginning of 2010.

Comments about REI Quantum Daypack:
I just picked this up a couple months ago to replace a 6-year old Patagonia backpack. I searched all over the web and narrowed it down to this one and the REI Acumen.
I really like the size and spaces. The main compartment opens nice and wide, and holds quite a bit while keeping it protected with dividers and pockets. My favorite part is the sleeve next to the laptop compartment which allows me to slide my iPad in and keep it safe from everything else. This was a selling point over the Acumen. It also has a nice zip pocket on the top which is great for keeping eye/sunglasses in. The shoulder straps are very well padded which is much appreciated when I get it loaded pretty full.
It seems pretty well-made, and it's nice to see a clean design with minimal stitching on the outside of the pack, although where there is some I think they could use a little higher stitch-count (same goes for most of REI brand products). The side water bottle pocket is nice and tall (another plus over the too-short one on the Acumen), although the elastic at the top often gets twisted around. I don't really need/use the side-zip for the laptop compartment, and would have preferred the small zip pocket like the Acumen has, but oh well. Lastly, the fabric seems plenty durable and looks nice, plus it's recycled which was another selling point for me.
