    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

REI Sprig 12 Pack - Kids' is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for backpacking pre-schooler We bought this for our 3.5 yr old daughter (41" tall) to use for a 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip in the Adirondacks. She loved the pack, wore it every step of the hike (total of ~7 miles). She carried water (internal pocket for smallish bladder), gorp, and her rain gear and had room to spare. I found the pack to be designed simply, without frills, but more than adequate for the intended age group. I like the bungee straps for attaching loose items without opening pack. Adjustability is good, should last us for several years, then with any luck, we'll pass it along to her little sister. We had thought that she would use it for preschool this year but she wants to save it for special backpacking trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fitting functional daypack kidsize We own two of these backpacks, the eggplant for my 3 year old and the infared for my 1 year old. We were looking for a good fitting backpack for hydration, carry essentials like snacks, sunscreen, sun hat, and jacket. The design is simplistic which is great for us (less pockets to load down). The main body is a single large zipper access opening with a slot for a hydration bladder. We bought the recommended 50 oz. bladder from amazon and it fits perfectly, the only problem was we had to shortern the bladder tube so my daughter could access it correctly when we fed it through the holes designed for it. There are two outer side mesh pockets which fit her .3 L sigg bottle perfectly (if we do a daytrip to Disneyland as opposed to a hike) along with any rocks she or items she often stashes in there. The backpack is a great fit on her little body with padded shoulder strap which curve inwards slightly for a nice fit and the sternum strap adjusted properly, there is minimal movement and she can wear the backpack easily for a 3-4 hour hike or all day running around the aquarium. The sternum straps have a whistle and can slide up and down the shoulder straps to adjust the height of where they buckle. The waist straps are non-padded are nice to completely minimize movement of the bag although I'm not sure how effective they are to distributing weight since we avoid packing the weight down. They're a bit long, but that's fine with us because my son and I can use them for creating our "choo choo" to stay together while manuever through crowds. My son, who's one, uses it for his daycare pack to travel with essentials (change of clothes, blanket etc) on a daily basis. It's still a bit too long for him, it hits him on the back of the thighs but when the sternum strap is applied he can carry it easily and it's a fairly decent fit for him since he insists on carrying a backpack and he'll grow into it. Also, the front of the backpack has a adjustable bungee strap criss-crosses in front it which is great for his smaller blankets and for whatever stuffed animal is his flavor of the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Load Off My Shoulders! I got this for my 6 5/8 year old, as an incentive to get outside and active. It's fantastic that she is old enough to hike and haul all by herself. Great size. With added 50oz antidote it is fantastic!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit of indep 4 my little hikers My girls (7 and 9) love their packs. I love not having to carry their water, rain gear, lunches! A sense on independence as they pack their own bags and carry them. At least one outside pocket would've been nice - looking for anything small req's you to empty the whole bag trailside - and then pack it all back up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet little backpacker pack My toddler loves it and I like all the features that make it practical like the side water bottle holder and bungees to hold stuffed animals. Great price for a great quality buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack - lots of features Perfect backpack for small kids. Full of features and adjustments. It is truly a hiking backpack scaled down for kids. My son is 7 years old now and still uses it for hiking and biking, even though he has a larger REI Tarn 18 for school/longer hikes. One warning is that it is NOT a school backpack and it is now wide enough to accommodate a school folder or lunch box (REI Tarn 18 does have enough space). It fits really well and has the perfect amount of space for some extra clothes, snack and water, without adding bulk and keeping the stability while running and cycling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fit is important. I gave this to a 6 year old boy for his birthday, and he was quite excited to use it. It solves a few problems neatly: - the bookbags with superheros strewn all over them popular with his peers are fairly large and bulky for kids of his age and size, yet don't handle loads with stability or comfort - hydration is key in a climate like AZ, but water-bottles get lost awfully easily at this age. The Sprig is just right for the little guy when we're hiking - it holds a 1 L Platypus bottle and drinking tube (trimmed in length a bit) nicely, and can carry a spare shirt, snack, and a buch of action figures/toys without carrying TOO many. ;) Yes, the better fit takes a little getting used-to compared with the oversized superhero-packs, but the rewards are many, including no more "I'm thirsty!" stops every 5 minutes, since the bite-valve is within grasp and a single liter isn't very heavy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for hikes, not good for school use. I bought two of these for my two oldest daughters (4 and 6) and they love them. I like the fit (they are just under and just over 4' tall), and the colors (blue and pink) are great. I am a bit disappointed that they are definitely not big enough for the girls to use for school and backpacking. The packs won't hold anything as large as a folder--it squashes down the corners. There's no way a three-ring binder would fit. Just don't plan on using this pack for school and it's fine!
