Rated5out of5byparkerbillfromGreat little lanternI bought this light a couple of weeks ago and used it for the first time while camping at a touring motorcycle rally in north Florida. It functioned really well and lit up the inside of my tent quite nicely. I liked being able to dim it down when full brightness was not required. It also did a fair job at lighting up the campsite, although to work best at this it needs to be hung up as it tends to shine its light downward more than outward. I like it!

Rated4out of5byBueller13fromNice lantern!Great lantern for tents, etc. Only drawback is that the on / off button is hard to find in the dark - difficult to feel it.

Rated3out of5byolsenbkfromOk light for in tent useBelieve i purchased this on-sale, price was right... it did the trick, kind of annoying that you have to open it up to turn the light on but then you can still close it to use as a flash light. just using as a lantern for the tent is just fine.

Rated5out of5bysposkafromExcellent backpacking lanternI went on a few trips last year and used this lantern that someone else brought. On my last trip to BWCA this year, the group used it extensively and I borrowed it several time to get some tent-glow pictures at sunset. Afterwards, I decided to buy my own and as luck would have it I nabbed one from the REI outlet for about $20 a few weeks later.
Mine works like the other models I used in the past and I frequently used it in the North Cascades last month. For the size and price it puts out plenty of light to be able to cook or find things in the tent etc. The two foldable hooks on the top are perfect for hanging in the tent. It even dims to save battery life etc. I've used it to get tent-glow pictures at sunset (I've only been able to get about 20-30' away from the lit tent to get a good shot).
About my only complaint is that it takes 4 AAA batteries so its a little heavy for a non-essential backpacking accessory. However it made the cut when I backpacked up to Sahale Glacier camp and was worth it!

Rated4out of5bySacSnoopyfromHandy piece of gearBought a couple of these Black Diamond Orbit Lanterns for a camping trip with family after reading the reviews about it on the site. As expected, the lantern provided more than adequate lighting for the night. The lanterns proved useful on table tops and walking in the camp area. The lantern feels solid with the batteries installed which helps in keeping them upright on the table. The materials used on the lantern is okay...its not the best/worst so no real complaints. It is on the heavy side for what it is. Still, the weight is not an issue when hanging it inside the tent. Personally, it is when it's used inside the tent that it's most useful as it illuminates the inside of the tent just right. The metal hook/loop design on top of the lantern is excellent. It provides a stable hanging platform on places which allow you to hang the lantern.
The one thing I think it needs work on is the push button on/dim/off switch. In the dark, its hard to tell where it is exactly regardless of whether you are wearing gloves or not. Having dimples on the button would greatly help determine the location of the switch.
For what the mini lantern is, it is on the expensive side. Performance isn't lacking, but the materials used could be better. The design could be improved. The lantern however allows for useful lighting when you're in the camp area.

Rated1out of5bykitten_70fromNot a good light, does not work anymoreIt does not even turn on after only 3 hours of use. It is going back to the store to get my money back. Also, as others have pointed out it does not work at temperatures around 35F.

Rated5out of5byRizzle DizzlefromYes Sir!This little light of mine...I'm gonna let it shine.
Tiny and sweet, this light does the trick. I use it solely for inside my tent. i.e...No more headlamp when getting ready to catch some Z's. Turn it on and let there be light.
It would probably work alright as a lantern if super dark outside but I've never tried it. I've got the next larger version for that purpose.
The function on the sliding of the lamp is a bit clunky, just be gentle with it. You could probably pull it right off.
