With monstrous capacity, the X-large Base Camp Duffel from The North Face is built to haul your adventure gear around the world. Kitchen sink not included.
- Main compartment features a D-shaped zippered opening for high visibility and easy access to the interior; internal mesh pockets offer extra organization
- Duffel-style handles and twin haul handles on ends provide carrying options and can be used for towing or tying down when traveling
- Shoulder straps provide comfortable, easy hauling as a backpack

We live overseas and we are planning to live here for awhile. Every so often, we go to the states because we can not find the right gear or the right size for our clothes. I am 6'2" and use XL or 2XL and the size of my shoes are 12. We live in a country where the average size is Small or Medium. The X Large Base Camp Duffel give us sufficient room to pack everything we are bringing home. As you imagine, the amount of clothes is not large quantity, but it just bulky.
The Alpine-cut shoulder straps are very convenient if you need to carry it around. It balance the weight very efficiently.
Four compression straps help you adjusting the duffel bag to the right dimensions to compress whatever is inside.
As you may guess, we are in love with the Base Camp Duffel. We have 3 of them and the oldest of them already has been around the globe!
Now, when it is empty, you can folded and storage it with out a problem!

These are great bags. I can throw them in the back of a pickup or in a campground. They provide excellent water protection. I have three x-l bags in different colors. None have given me any problems (no broken zippers / tears/ broken straps etc)

This duffel's large capacity is ideal for all the scuba equipment you need to carry minus a tank. I used it on an extended vacation to Hawaii to transport all my scuba gear, including the BCD, and clothes. It had more than enough room for everything I needed and more. It has a very tough construction and survived, without damage, some rough handling. The backstraps made it easy to use for carrying the full load for distances for at least a half mile. It would not be suitable for extended hiking distances. The only complaint I have with the bag is the zipper frequently hangs up in normal operation. Overall, I'm very pleased with the bag and would recommend its purchase and use for those needing a large capacity bag for short distances less than a mile.

I have only had the North Face Base Camp duffel XL for a short while but can already tell that I am going to enjoy it for many years to come. This duffel could carry all of my other duffels it is so large, or should I say Extra Large. The quality of build is what you would expect from North Face, excellent. I am so pleased with this duffel I have already ordered another.
I use the duffels to carry "soft" items like clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and misc camping gear. I plan on using these duffels for my future Jeep; the waterproof material will help keep my dry items dry should I encounter a random storm with the Jeeps top off.
Watch out if you load these to the match as they can end up being quite heavy.

I have had four NF base camp Duffles- 2large, 1 xl, and a Medium- and these bags are as good as it gets. I pack all my gear for a weekend or week long backpacking trip and clothing and cart it to the airport where I have a hard time staying below the 50 pound limitation(hence the too big CON).
These last forever- have been beaten up, scraped, pushed into the small opening of a Rental Camero's trunk.. dropped on the rocks, drug along the rocky ground.. all without incident. I keep waiting for a zipper to fail- and to be quite honest- I have never had an issue with water even tho the zippers leak...I store my dry goods in a plastic bag and have no problems! This bag performs better than any duffle I have ever had!
Best features- Compression Straps on the side... Back pack style shoulder straps which are optional.. and bright colors. (although 2 of mine are black). I would not only recommend it to a friend- I would buy him/her one! BTW- I still have all 4 of them, I use them for larger group trips- so my best friend and my daughter can bring everything along! *they are not minimalist hikers!!UGG

Be careful how much you put in this bag, because you not be able to lift it. If you are looking for water proof get a dry bag. I love this bag. We have two small, two large, the xl.

I use this duffel when we go anywhere, but let me tell you how important it really is.
I bought 2 NF duffel XL to travel with my family (wife and 2 daughters). With all the girls wanting 2 suit cases each on our week long ski trips and realizing that our suitcases empty weighs around 18 lb each empty and with the airlines charging for second bags, I decided to eliminate some of the extra cost. NFduffel xl wieghts 5 lb so I get about 13 lb more clothes in each duffel which now I can eliminate at least 2 suitcases and save 100.00 bucks in airline fees.
It has compression straps and shoulder straps.
They are AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We want more of these bags so we need to take more ski trips.

Alright, so I don't know where the promise of waterproof zippers comes in...I didn't see anything on the website about that, so l don't think that a negative review based on something that wasn't even promised is fair. What I can tell you though is that this bag is awesome, its my second one and they're probably the sturdiest and most durable bags on the market, I put my stuff through everything and I haven't been let down yet. Yeah the thing isn't completely waterproof, but it doesn't file my taxes for me either, But I won't hold it accountable for either.

This is an excellent bag but if you pack your gear and go through a rain storm and find that you clothes are all wet becasue this bag is 100% waterproof material with the exception of the ZIPPERS then this bag is great. Why on Earth would they make such a great bag and not have waterproof zippers? They need to fix this.
Otherwise I'd give this bag 5 stars...for now; it's only good for trips that will not have to endure any precipitation.
