The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Rated5out of5byBrown IrishmanfromWorth the money and then some!We have a total of 4 bags in 3 different sizes. 2 of which survived a 2 1/2 month, 20,000 mile motorcycle trip and barely look worn. I would say that they are very water resistant as after 4 hours at 55 mph in a torrential downpour the items near the zipper were only a little damp. I like that they have added new colors. we have 2 black and 2 red and may add 2 more Green ones.

Rated5out of5bySmackyfromNothing really comparable....I have been using this thing for at least 4 or 5 years to both store gear, as well as international/domestic travel.
I have the largest one available, and it fits my entire packing load out for multi day trips when I am flying to destinations to get started (Pack, Boots, All gear, clothes, Poles, etc.)
Its very sturdy, and well made. Has a nice little mesh pocket on the inside top for keeping stuff you need access too if you are really pushing the limits. The straps are great (wide with some padding) as you can wear this thing as a backpack when moving from transport/lodgings etc.
I have taken to numerous trips to Asia and South America and it really takes a beating. The zippers are solid, and easily support "mini locks" if you want to secure it when left unattended. The inside is almost like a rubber material, and feels completely waterproof.
I also have larger sized duffels from REI and others that while work, cannot compare to this. I will buy more in the future and its worth the money

Rated4out of5bylqtomfromGood BagThe bag is very well made, waterproof, and should last a long time. It is somewhat difficult to "live out of." It is great for trips where you are going to unpack, stay a while and return home, but it is not very convenient to find things if you don't unpack. The large one is somewhat difficult to carry long distances. It has backpack straps, but it was too heavy for me as a backpack, about 40 pounds, so I changed the straps to over the shoulder and that worked better.

Rated5out of5byMark Edward ZonafromThis Bag Is A Beast!I purchased this bag in mid-October and have already put several thousand kilometers of travel on it. Only a few superficial scuffs from airline baggage handling, but nothing has even left a real scratch on this bag.
It is a tight fit, but I can get my 65L internal frame pack plus everything that I normally lash externally (trekking pole, sleeping bag, etc) inside the Large pack. (Smaller bags fit very easily.) This is very useful when I want to travel by airline and check my bag but don't want to worry about damage to my packing gear. Note though that, while this bag folds down quite well, it would take up way to much space in a pack once you arrive at your destination; you really need a "base camp" (ie. airport locker, hotel, etc) to leave it at while you go out packing.
When using as a standalone bag, I have been unable to completely fill it with a week's worth of gear, clothes, food, etc. It is *that* big.
The side compression straps pull things in really well, which is especially useful when using it in backpack mode. As a backpack, I am able to easily carry the Large as a 182cm tall male. At 160cm, my girlfriend struggles a little bit with a completely full Large backpack, but she has motored through airports successfully.
Last note on the review: The REI Cable Lock (Item # 765688) and the Victorinox Travel Sentry Cable Lock (Item # 800518) work brilliantly to secure the bag through the lid zippers.

Rated5out of5byRich in KenyafromCarry AllI bought this bag on the recommendation of a friend. I live overseas (now in Egypt, before in Kenya). This bag is well made, durable, and handles whatever will fit inside. I've used it strapped to the top of a 4x4 in the Maasai Mara, loaded with 50lbs on transcontinental flights, and as a vegetable tote at the local market.
If you want a duffel with good straps for grabbing, seems and zippers that won't separate, made from water-resistant material, then this is the bag for you.
Note: this bag is made from what I would call "rubberized canvas". It has a smooth plastic feel on the outside in contrast to a rough heavy fabric feel that is also common on many duffels.

Rated5out of5bycrotchetyfromit does exactly what it says on the boxthis bag, along with its smaller sibling (duffel small), has already been around the globe in the few short months since they were picked up in CO. It only took on airline to take the sheen through means of being stuffed in the cargo hold of a grubby plane. At time of writing it is sitting filled with tent sleeping bag and stovetop expresso maker on the tarmac of a very small outback Australian airport, waiting to be loaded onto yet another plane to be jetted off to the Dolomites and then the Alps in France.
This bag has an opening that can be filled with what ever you want and sufficient zippers to close it providing it is not over filled, and straps to compact, straps to carry and straps to put on your back. Its durable and will scuff up like you have had it for years in a short time (if those sort of things worry you).
I dont normally fill out these reviews but I am bored while waiting on another plane.
Get this bag or any of the larger or smaller ones and you will be very happy (though it is just a bag and if you are relying on a bag to make you happy maybe you should spend the money of going to see doctor or psychiatrist)
