Rated4out of5byCourtneyCranefromBest Purchase for my Research CareerI have used this product for over a year and its about time I wrote a review. I am frustrated at the other reviews that bought it and merely commented on theoretical breakdowns and potential bad quality. I use this bag daily: I commute on public transportation and sometimes have to walk through gravel or grass. I also travel about 5 times a year. So, I need something that can handle the Portland rain, can be strapped to my back during times I can't pull it, and can handle the abuse of daily use. After over a year, this bag has plenty of life left in her!
The wheels: Commenters have mentioned the 'flimsy' nature of these wheels and because they are plastic, they are likely to break. This bag has endured quite a bit of jumping off of tall curbs, uneven pavement, and enough abuse that if they were flimsy, they would have broken by now. They have plenty of life in them and I'm not worried.
The handle: another concern was the flimsiness of the handle. You should never lift a roller bag by its handle, but lets face it: hurrying to hop on a train before the doors close means you occasionally have to. The handle does seem a bit loose, but again, top notch quality for the abuse it has gone through. I'm not at all worried about my handle breaking or loosening. It is also very, very comfortable to hold and pull. I sometimes have to walk 3 miles or so pulling it behind me and its very comfortable.
Straps/Backpack function. This is where I give the product a 4 out of 5. The straps are sturdy enough, they store in a way that keeps them from dragging. However, you can't get them out in a pinch. If you need to rely on the backpack function of this often, for long periods of time, or your cargo is very heavy, I suggest investing in a better model. The back is so hard that I don't use this function often. The straps are also a tiny bit hard to pull out and put back in with ease. You can't do this in a hurry!
Storage and Pockets: This is another thing that keeps me from saying its fully perfect. The front two pockets are great. The top pocket is where I can keep my wallet and phone and have easy access to, and the bottom is perfect for office-supply stuff or toiletries. I have a *huge* 17 inch laptop that fits in the laptop sleeve, and I'm sure a bigger one could easily go in and be secured. However, it simply doesn't have enough room for everything I typically need day to day: my books, laptop, lunch, and papers won't all fit in very easily and take some manuvering. And, while I consider myself a light traveler, its hard to fit my laptop, chord, and two days worth of clothes in the whole thing. Making this a little bit bigger would be a great improvement. If this is just your carry-on, you are set. If this is your all-in-one bag, you may want to get another bag. However, for the price, I just got a small bag that I hang off the handle and its no more inconvenient for me.
Overall, for the price and for its insane durability, its a worthwhile product and I highly, highly recommend it. I've used it for the past year and have no plans of changing bags for the next several years.
