Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifieris rated3.1818out of5by11.
Rated2out of5byfromLeaky Bottle!I purchased the Katadyn filter for a 2 week backpacking trip to Central America. The filter part of the bottle worked great. The bottle itself leaves something to be desired. The bottle leaked between the lid and the bottle itself, no matter how tightly I tried to screw it on and even popped off a couple of times - I think because of the flexibility of the bottle. It needs a flexible squeeze area and a more rigid screw top to work well. The mouthpiece would not fold completely down to seal water in, so water constantly leaked from there as well. I would have loved to give this more stars... I drank whatever water was available and never got sick, so the filtration system is great, but water needs to stay in the bottle for later as well! :)

Rated2out of5byfromReturned this productI didn't get sick so I think it worked, but it was heavy and of low capacity. Most annoying was it was difficult to squeeze to get water out of.

Rated1out of5byfromNot much here...Heavy use on a climb, plastic straw from chamber to mouthpiece broke on day 2. Pitched...not recommended.

Rated4out of5byfromCost effective optionI use this while traveling instead of buying bottled water. The filter removes the funky tastes and smells (as well as other things I can't taste/smell), that would upset my digestive system. The filter does take up space inside the bottle, and when filled with water is considerably heavier that just a bottle of water. I tried a filtering water bottle from another vendor, but the filter is located at the top of the bottle, making it prone to tipping over. This style is more stable, and I don't have to tip the bottle up to draw water. BTW, it is too easy to install the filter upside down (the fittings are all the same). There was no instruction sheet included with my shipment, so I had to do some trial and error until I could actually get water to flow through the filter.

Rated3out of5byfromGood for the short-termAs advertised this is a straightforward and easy to use water purification system. I have used while traveling in a number of third-world countries and my travel partners had committed to using it for one of our entire around-the-world trips. I'll say upfront that my companions never got sick, and while I did, I cannot attribute it to the bottle. It works great out of the gate, however, it will often develop leaks with that little air-inlet valve, and even when new you pretty much have to make sure it stays upright in your pack or it'll leak. Further down the road I was less inspired by its performance. In addition to the air-inlet valve beginning to back-flow more and more, air enters the water stream, which I took to mean that the seals at the top of the filter stack allow air in as the water level drops. This makes me think that they may also allow contaminated water in. In short, it works well in the short term, but I would treat the bottle and the filter as both consumables.

Rated5out of5byfromRight price and featuresI have used the device on extended bike rides and hikes. It works great; the only issue is trying to reach water holes that are not easy to access would be nice to have a attachable tube for those hard to reach spots.

Rated5out of5byfromThe best I have foundI was looking for a better water bottle than this but the only one I found via the reviews was the one with the light but that is $100 bones and it looked much bulkier and I wonder about its durability if dropped on a rock or whatever. I have logged around 1000 miles with this bottle and it has not let me (or my wife when her platypus bag runs out) down yet. When it gets low, simply dip it in a stream or lake and put the top back on and drink away. Its not going to get much easier than that.
