Rated4out of5byfromAbsolutely essential! After reading some of the comments I was debating whether to buy them or not. I finally went for it and I'm glad I did. The fit, are non-itchy, roll up to a small ball that easily fits in your jersey pocket, don't smell. I was surprised about how well they keep out the wind. I rode last Sunday 70 miles in cold and windy weather in upstate New York. I wore 3/4 length bike tights and slowly turned to an icicle then I put the leg warmers/knee warmers on and felt immediately the difference. So far I wore them on 3 rides of each 50-70 miles length, no tear and wear. Yes, you'll have to make sure to secure them under the gripper of your bike tights when wearing short tights. I noticed that when walking longer stretches they sometimes can slide out a bit from the leg grippers of my shorts but that's easily corrected. Hasn't happened to me when riding if I tucked them in careful. I haven't washed them yet. It says they can be machine washed and tossed in the dryer at low temps but this is something I'd probably wouldn't do. Might be my personal prejudice: I just never machine wash or tumble-dry any wool clothes. But then again, it's not synthetic so I don't have to worry that they smell like a skunk each time I wore them so I expect to only have to wash them once in a while.
