Comments about Zamberlan Trekker Hiking Boots - Men's:
I love Zamberlan boots. I REALLY wanted this model to work -- we need more non-GTX options! These boots are typical Zamberlan quality -- superb. They simply don't fit my heels due to a design "flaw" (at least for my feet) -- there is a seem at the heal where the ankle padding meeting the leather. To describe it as a hot spot would be an understatement -- it made my feet bleed in two miles. I tried 3 different sock combos and 2 different sets of shoes from REI. Other than this fatal flaw -- these are perfect boots. If they fit you with no hot spots -- you will love them.

These are great boots especially for me being a bigger size hiker (6' 240lbs size 12D). Somehow those super light weight hiking boots just leave me with hurting feet at the end of the day. These Zamberlan boots offer support, comfort and great grip. They do require a break in, I just started wearing them around and they broke in just fine. I treated with boots with Minwax but I don't know if they need it. These are my first pair of Zamberlans and I really like them, At the end of the day it is still one foot after the other, at the end of the day my feet don't hurt. The boots are fairly lightweight for a full size boot.

This is one amazing boot! Had a very short break-in time, something like a week of walking around in them before my trip. While on the trip I had no issues, I was out 5 days camping/hiking. Had a real great time and best of all I did not get any blisters or suffer while wearing these boots. I love these boots and will consider myself a Zamberlan consumer for life!

Comments about Zamberlan Trekker Hiking Boots - Men's:
This boot is not so great. While the concept of an all-leather, no-Goretex boot sounds great, it just doesn't fit very well. Unlike the Zamberlan 996 Vioz GT which is probably the best boot on the market, and the best fitting, the Trekker is wide and sloppy in the toe and ball of foot, and actually has so much volume that the crease folded down and pinched my foot.
I sure wish the Trekker was made the same way as the 996 Vioz, sans the Goretex. That would be a real winner. I hate Goretex boots when it is hot, just like everyone else. But this is not the answer, unless you have very fat toes and ball of foot.

Comments about Zamberlan Trekker Hiking Boots - Men's:
I wanted an over the ankle, lightweight yet durable hiking boot. I had returned the last 3 pairs of similar boots from other boot makers because they started to come apart after less than a season of use. Usage involved search and rescue work and hiking/climbing 14ers in Colorado.
The first pair of Trekkers had to be returned after about 75 miles because the tongue would not stay centered no matter what I did. Figured it was a factory error.
This pair is starting out great. Have about 200 miles on them, tongue stays centered and very comfortable.
Thanks REI for the great return policy!

Great boots that fit perfectly. Before I bought these, I was curious about some of the other reviews. Some described these boots as wide and perfect for feet with bunions, while others described them as perfect for narrow feet. After I tried them on, walked around a bit, and tested them on the incline thingy in the store, I think I figured them out. They hold your heel snuggly, so your feet don't slide into the toes on descents; but there is still room around the toes for my beat up old feet, complete with bunions.
On the trail they met all my expectations. The break-in was easy. I hiked six miles the first time I wore them and they felt fine. I hiked an average of about 30 miles per week last fall and winter on day hikes and training hikes with a pack in parks near my home, and never even had a hot spot. This spring I did an REI Adventures backpacking trip in Yellowstone. The boots stayed dry and warm in spite of rain and several inches of wet snow. (Until I forded a stream that was too deep -- my fault, not the boots.) They handled the trails with no problem. I am very pleased with these boots.

I have had the 308s for several months now, but have not been able to get beyond casual light hikes in them. Every time in less than an hour i get blisters on my heels. A small hump/bump in the upper portion of the heel cup seems to be the culprit. This hump in the upper portion of the heel cup appears to be caused by material from the padded collar. I had hopes this would break in or smooth out, but I guess I was too optimistic. I took them to a cobbler, but his efforts to smooth them out have failed. If it were not for the heels I would really like these boots. They fit my boot preferences, sturdy mostly leather construction, fairly lightweight, no gore-tex, good vibram sole, etc.. Maybe the problems I have experienced is an unfortunate fluke. If you decide to purchase the 308s. make sure to take a look at the construction of the heel and collar connection.

Comments about Zamberlan Trekker Hiking Boots - Men's:
I just broke in these boots on the Lathrop and Syncline Loop trails at Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I didn't get a single blister, only the slightest hot spot on the back of my heels. Did about 33 miles in two days. Granted I had a fairly light load, 100oz water, couple of power bars and some dried fruit, DSLR camera, multi-tool, headlamp and a few other small things. They did fit a bit tight on the ankle, loosening the laces fixed that just fine though. The soles gripped the rocky descent and ascent of Upheavel Dome with excellent traction; it was bone dry in most of the canyon. I didn't have a problem where there was water though. The only complaint, and it is small, is that small debris seemed to get into the boot fairly easily. Had to stop and remove a twig or pebble a few times.
A HUGE improvement over the combat boots I was hiking in before!

These boots make me want to get up and do adventurist things. At age 64, books don't excite me, however this pair sure did. The fit, comfort and styling suits me fine. The genuine leather used throughout display quality at its best.
Don't give up on quality, Zamberlan

Comments about Zamberlan Trekker Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought my first pair about a month before starting an AT thru-hike this year. Also a pair of Super-feet insoles which I replaced after 700 miles. I carried about 35 lbs most of the time. These boots held up well, good traction on the slick stuff, good cushioning over rocks and I never really noticed my feet getting hot. They are relatively heavy but offer excellent foot protection. They are not waterproof but with some care I kept them pretty water-resistant. One of the bootlace cleats bent almost closed but I was able to remedy that once I got hold of some needle-nosed pliers. I put 1500 miles on the first pair. They still look like boots. The soles wore down to the point that it was time to replace them. Also some wear-through on the calf-skin lining near the top of each boot. My second pair of Trekkers got me from Connecticut to Katahdin. I bought these 1/2 size larger and used Soles foot beds and sock liners. I took one day off to break these boots in and my feet never knew they were in new shoes. This pair took a lot of punishment and they show some wear. The rubber toe-caps are beginning to separate from the leather but I kicked a lot of rock. I saw a lot of folks burn through 4-5 pairs of shoes on this trip. If I did this again next year, these are the boots I would wear.
