Rated5out of5byBig Red 64fromDurable - survived overseas tripSeveral years ago I took my family on a sabbatical to Central Europe. We purchased five to carry our clothes, essentials, tent, and sleeping bags. These did well in holding our items. The zippers held up even when we stuffed them so full that we needed to sit on them to get the zippers closed. They were durable enough to survive the air travel and compact enough to be folded up to be stored away in our small flat in Europe. We continue to use them in place of suit cases for many of our camping trips and car adventures to the coasts. They still show little sign of wear.

Rated4out of5bykeithbargerfromDoes the job of carrying stuffI am a teacher who travels abroad. I need to carry my clothes from my Portland home base to wherever the job may be. The first time I departed, I checked a single large suitcase and an internal frame Jansport backpack. The suitcase really carried most of it. The backpack was intended to be a weekend excursion bag. The problem was that as good as it was for that it was a poor second bag.
I bought the REI duffle to fill the gap. First thing I put in it was my flattened Jansport backpack. It will still be my excursion bag, but the duffle easily fit it, everything I previously packed in it, plus more. It worked out splendidly for flying to Kuwait. It allowed me to have smaller carry-ons and thus more room on the plane.
A functional bag that does what it needs to do.

Rated4out of5byUrban HikerfromSolid, basic, does the jobWe bought this duffel bag to pack a bunch of gear for a short beach vacation in a neighboring state. It became our "beach in a bag" holding the collapsible sun shelter, two folding chairs, the big sand-proof beach blanket, a couple of beach towels, a bag of tent stakes, a tent stake mallet and a collection of zip-lock bags for the e-readers, cell phones, sun screen, etc. It's perfect! The only reason I didn't give it five stars: it really needs a pad for the shoulder strap.

Rated5out of5byAglanefromsturdy sizable duffelBought this duffel for drive to mts and heli trip in/out of a weeklong climbing camp. 40# plus of bag, pad, rockshoes and gear, two pairs mt boots and 2 pairs crampons, clothing for down to freezing, and the lot. This duffel is what I needed and was looking for. Price seems very competitive! Not a fully waterproof duffel, but it gives every indication for sufficient water-resistance for most uses. Packed very tight, it stood the stresses of being tossed around. The storage pouch is superfluous by my lights, but is another pretty good storage item to have on hand.

Rated4out of5byWishes He Could Be a True OutdoorsmanfromBasic but sturdyI used this for a weeklong bike trip (RAGBRAI) where it got loaded and unloaded off of a truck on a daily basis, essentially thrown around. I also checked it in as luggage on the airplane, where it probably also got thrown around. It held up perfectly well. It is very sturdy material. I have the XL size, which can hold a lot of gear. I like the storage pouch that comes with it. I used it for my toiletries.

Rated5out of5byChadzofromExactly What I WantedI use this Duffel for my travels throughout the Pacific Northwest. It holds a lot of stuff and is very easy to carry. Thus far, it has proven durable. There is a smaller bag included that holds a surprising amount of stuff. The price was completely reasonable.
