Rated4out of5byhygroscopicfromI own a few of theseWho can go wrong with a duffel, right? Simple, tough and lightweight. I own a few (in different sizes) and use them for a lot of different things, including a 72-hour emergency kit. One thing I would add are zippered side pockets for small and/or flat items (when you need quick/easy access to something.)

Rated5out of5byKirbyfromWeekly Gear HaulingI've used the medium duffle from REI for weekend trips for a couple years now - it gets a lot of use and has held up great. I picked up a large duffle this week to transport bigger things - all my broomball gear to and from the rink a couple times a week (pads, helmets, shoes balls) and to use for fishing/hunting trips where I have a lot of specialized clothes (heavy jackets, waders, waterproof/ice gear etc).
After comparing the large to the medium, the large does hold quite a bit more gear and seems to be of similar construction quality. It's hard to find a basic duffle for a reasonable price these days - so I may snatch another one up when these go on sale again!

Rated5out of5byScoPiMagoofromThink I'll buy one for myselfBought this bag for my son for cub scout camp outs. It's a great bag and fits all his stuff, but it's a little big for him to handle. He's only 9, so I'm sure he will grow into it.
Now I want one, too.

Rated5out of5byDave6875fromSolid bagI am a minimalist air traveler. I hate roller bags and prefer to carry a duffle if I am checking a bag. Used this for a trip to Cancun and back. Both ways had a layover and an extra trip through Customs. Bag held up GREAT. A couple compression straps for keep stuff from shifting worked well.

Rated5out of5byPabloA2fromBack to the BasicsSometimes all you need is a basic duffel bag, not a myriad of pockets or something plastered with logos, just a bag to carry your stuff. This is that bag. No, its not waterproof nor should you expect to be unscathed in the event its dragged across a road for miles but for what most of us need, a solid bag for schlepping our gear this is ideal. It comes in a variety of sizes and since it doesn't have compartments its very versatile.
Yes, there are times when you might want something more organized but I used this for a week long trip and found it to be just what I needed. Maybe the best part of it is how easy it is to store when not being used. It folds down and fits into its own carrying pouch so it doesn't take up much rtoom in a closet. Since it folds down so nicely its also great to carry in a larger bag as a back up on a trip.
Overall, even if this isn't your primary bag you'd be well served to have at least one in your gear assortment since its so versatile and affordable; chances are you'll be like me and find that your other more "hard core" duffels begin to gather dust; this really is all you need most of the time.
