Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I use this for my sleeping bag on extended trip hikes. The bag fits perfectly and the compression brings the bag down to a manageable size that fits well in a 70L backpack. The sack itself doesn't add much weight, and I can't think of anything else I would need in a compression bag.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
Looks really nice, but the quality of these compression sacks is poor. The bag I purchase lasted for only 10 uses? I have had compression sacks last 20 years with heavy use, I know that this fabric is ultralight, but it should be able to last at least 5 years, with occasional use.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
This is a great product. It ripped after less than a year of using. Wish that the fabric was thicker and more water resistant. I have not purchased another one seeing as the stuff sack that came with my bag can get pretty small.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I have read about lots of people having this bag tear.. I haven't yet run into that problem and I have been using it for about a year.. I use it for my tent or sleeping bag. I could see why it might tear, it does feel a bit weak, but again I haven't had that problem yet.. Also, it sometimes gets a bit tangled and can be a little annoying.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I recommend staying away from these (REI) compression bags. First off, I have a synthetic mummy bag and REI recommended the 16 liter bag. Not even close to being big enough. The 21 liter bag was better, but could be bigger. The material used to manufacture the compression bag is just too thin. Paper thin. It may help in reducing weight, but I feel, every time I stuff my mummy bag into it, my fingers may bust right through the material in the process. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm expecting it. And after only a month of use, the seams on two of the compression straps are already coming apart. It's a poor design, straight up. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I have a few of these I use to compress my sleeping bag, my clothes, and my food.
Not one tore after a long venture out to Emigrant Wilderness. Granted, I read a lot of other reviewers saying they tare easily, I am either lucky or don't pack as much in them as others do.
Regardless, they worked extremely well, saved me a lot of space in my pack, and dried really, very quickly if they got wet.
The four pull straps really ball up your stuff, which sometimes made them hard to pack, but there's a point where you gotta keep them loose, and let the straps on your pack and the weight of your gear do the rest of the compressing.
Doubled as a great pillow as well. Just stuffed clothes in and tightened the straps to achieve my desired firmness.
Great product.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I own numerous REI compression sacks and use them for everything, from compressing down: my Simms wadders, to my sleeping bag, tent body & rainfly, & extra clothing.
The secret to using these bags is: to be gentile, pack items appropriately (ie: wrap sharp, jagged objects inside clothing) and compress the bag slowly - DON'T yank down on the straps too hard or too fast, this will sure cause the bag to tear.
*Like alot of UL gear on the market, these bags are made from silnylon, which can tear easy. So, extra caution & care are necessary for the REI Compression Stuff Sacks; just like other UL gear!

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I used the extra-large (21-inch) size to store my bulky synthetic 0-degree sleeping bag during a month-long trip to Peru. I packed and unpacked it 2 to 3 times a week and it stood up well to some serious tightening-down. No rips yet in my case, let's see how it does.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
I own three of the 16L bags and my son has one as well. They do a great job of compressing my clothing. I've seen other reviews about the bags coming apart in one way or another, but in my opinion, as long as one treats them as a compression bag vice a stuff sack, they hold up well. I have used them on a dozen outings or so and have had no problems with the bags coming apart.

Comments about REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack:
The sewing rips when pressure is applied to compress the interior item as much as possible.
The product is not durable, and the first one I purchased, failed on the first weekend I was out with it. There's nothing worse than failure to create grief and detract from enjoyment.
For light use, where space is not an issue, this will do. But otherwise, it's not a hard working product.
Consider others which REI offers, and avoid this one if you can.
